Thousands protest Swedish far-right party as Parliament reconvenes following election

Thousands of people have protested against racism in a demonstration aimed at a far-right party that has entered the Swedish Parliament for the first time.

The demonstrators marched peacefully toward the parliament building Monday.

Similar but smaller protests were held in major cities across the Scandinavian country.

The far-right Sweden Democrats won 20 seats in the 349-member Parliament in a Sept. 19 election. The party demands sharp cuts in immigration, and has called Islam the greatest foreign threat since World War II.
