(California) Legislature passes budget after all-nighter
Source: San Francisco Chronicle

(10-08) 11:05 PDT Sacramento - --

One hundred days after the beginning of the fiscal year, the California Legislature has passed a budget to solve both a $19 billion deficit and the record-breaking impasse. It didn't come easy.

Lawmakers voted on the final piece of about 20 bills that make up the budget at around 8:25 a.m. today following an all-nighter in which several votes on the plan failed to reach the two-thirds majority mandated by law to approve the proposal. At some points through the night and early morning it appeared that the deal might fall apart.

Overall, the budget creates an $87.5 billion general fund spending plan, which is about a billion more dollars than the previous year's budget. It includes no new taxes and no severe cuts to state programs, although it does defer a $2 billion payment to public schools and community colleges to next year.

6. I'm voting for it.
And 19.

Against 23.

those are the big ones. I don't think enough people understand what prop 25 is. A lot of scare campaign around it right now. I hope it passes. I'll take what ever poison pills are in it to get rid of this stupid 2/3 majority rule that is killing CA.

5. "...failed to reach the two-thirds majority" says it all
right now, the minority is in charge, because they obstruct everything. None of this would be happening if we had a majority vote.
