Shots Fired at Carlsbad School
Source: NBC San Diego

Police in Carlsbad were called out to Kelly Elementary School after shots were fired.

The school is located at 4885 Kelly Drive. According to a law enforcement source, Carlsbad police have a suspect and weapon in custody.

Scott Chandler, who lives across the street from the school, said he helped to capture the shooting suspect. He said that he and a couple of construction workers tackled the man.

"I believe he ran out of bullets, then ran to a fence, chased by a couple guys," Chandler said, whose two children both graduated from the school.

5. Guns are actually very safe.
Given that millions of Americans use/carry/own them on a daily basis.

Criminal, unstable behavior on the other hand? That's not very safe at all.

Some whacky shootings going on?

A gunman dressed in black and carrying a Halloween jack-o'-lantern wounded two students at an elementary school in Carlsbad, Calif., before being tackled by construction workers.

One of the workers, Carlos Partida, told 10News in San Diego that after the gunman opened fire at Kelly Elementary School, he got into his truck and was able to knock the man down with his vehicle. The assailant was then tackled by other construction workers.

Ed Willins, who was nearby when the incident occurred, said he saw the workers tackle the gunman. "They were on him immediately," he told The Times. "They administered a little street justice on him before the cops got there."

Shooter also had propane tank, gas can and extra ammo

“He came prepared, with extra ammunition and reloaders packed in his pocket,” Lynn said.

Bomb investigators were examining a propane tank that was sitting outside the suspect’s car, a tan sedan parked at the curb near the field.

The suspect’s name has not been released, and police were working to verify his identity. He has given police three names so far, including a woman’s name, said Cain.

He was described by witnesses as 20 to 30 years old, clean-shaven, with short hair. Police described him as “gray-haired.”

And yay for CA construction workers this month. 2nd time they are heroes!

Might be a good thing this guy came with a revolver. Except for the real experts, revolvers take longer to reload & of course hold only 5-8 rounds depending on the revolver. I'd guess his held 6 rounds. Gave the construction workers the opportunity to take him down.

11. were the construction workers doing stimulous type work?
as far as the guns and the guy, this world is getting crazier every moment of the day. They (the police) should shoot him once in the hand to show him what it feels lie, then they can put him in jail with other folks that have bullet holes in thier hands.

Wadda you guys think?

20. california has some very strict handgun
laws.

California requires a Handgun Safety Certificate to legally purchase a handgun. I doubt that the alleged shooter legally procured his firearm.

16. Where would we be without the 2nd amendment? We'd be like France or Australia
or one of those high quality life nations and not crashing toward third world America status. But don't worry we'll soon be sending the kids to school and even Sunday school with guns. It's the American way, we're so special, at least that's what the teabaggers tell us.

18. UPDATE: Gunman captured in school playground shooting (ranted about Obama too!)
Reporting from Carlsbad, Calif. —
A gunman dressed in black and ranting incoherently about President Obama fired on an elementary school playground in Carlsbad, Calif., at lunchtime Friday, slightly wounding two children before construction workers tackled him.

The injured girls, both second-graders, suffered graze wounds in the arm, authorities said. They were airlifted to Rady Children's Hospital in nearby San Diego. Witnesses who saw them taken to the aircraft said they did not appear to be seriously injured and that one girl even waved to onlookers.

Ed Willins, an eyewitness to the shooting, said he saw the workers tackle, punch and kick the gunman. "They were on him immediately," he said. "They administered a little street justice on him before the cops got there."

--snip--

Construction worker Carlos Partida, who was remodeling the school kitchen...said that the gunman, who was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and black pants, had been screaming incoherently and mentioned President Obama. Some witnesses said the gunman was carrying a gasoline can and others said it seemed to be gasoline can decorated like a Halloween jack-o'-lantern. The bomb squad was called to examine a propane tank found in the gunman's car.

Arrested on six counts of attempted murder and various weapons charges.

As the men peppered O’Rourke with questions, the gunman’s only reply was a series of “growls and grunts,”
