Porn star tests positive for HIV, two studios close down
Source: NY Daily News

A XXX-film star in California has tested positive for HIV, sending those working in the multibillion-dollar porn industry into panic-mode and forcing two of the industry's largest studios to postpone filming. Wicked Pictures and Vivid Entertainment have stopped production as a precaution, and now there's a scramble to test partners who may have worked with the actor.

The identity and gender of the actor has not been disclosed, in addition to what companies he or she worked for and when the person was tested.

2. I think aids among porn actors is low compared to the rest of us because of the weekly testing.
I think this is only the second time I've heard about a porn actor causing a shutdown due to aids

31. oh goody, somebody got out the Children Anthology of Libertarian Fantasies
The porn industry does a lousy job of policing themselves, especially when it comes to keeping "talent" who also participate in prostitution out of the business. Ultimately the problem is so much of the "talent" live extremely high-risk lifestyles that no frequency of testing will really help.

While AIDS outbreaks are uncommon, other STD's - particularly gonorrhea are always rampant.

43. On prostitution, hell no
But on issues that MATTER like AIDS - they do

They don't police themselves on Prostitution because PROSTITUTION LAWS ARE STUPID

Edited on Wed Oct-13-10 10:13 PM by Sen. Walter Sobchak
"reputable" producers typically will not employ known prostitutes, however disreputable producers - which would include my delightful family just love 'em. Their cheap and they don't complain much.

If you think having unprotected sex with a prostitute and or drug user is a great idea, I guess it is your dick. But it is typically frowned upon.

61. I wasn't planning on it, but why should it be illegal?
I mean - when we could regulate it like European nations do? Or Asian nations? Or Canada?

It's that 'ole time religion' that keeps us behind the rest of the world

63. That isn't the subject here,
The subject is that the porn industry does a poor job keeping prostitutes out their projects, they are the ones who infect other performers during unprotected sex.

And the sex trade as it exists in Europe and Asia isn't something to be emulated, since it is based almost entirely on trafficking women from elsewhere for prostitution. But why let the well being of real, living and breathing people get in the way of a libertarian rant?

It is the funniest thing, there aren't very many western european or westernized asian women who want to be prostitutes,

...if I pay someone to have sex with me, it is prostitution and illegal...and if I film it, or take a picture of the act, it is porn and legal, right?

Yep, pretty stupid laws.

There was one case last year..But before that, there wasn't an HIV outbreak since the Spring 2004 Darren James incident..He got HIV from BBFS w/a transexual in Brazil, then subsequently infected 4 or 5 women in the industry....

57. Well Chad Noel (aka Craven Cox) was supposedly infected with HIV
Edited on Thu Oct-14-10 05:27 PM by musicblind
while working for Helix Studios. At least that is the claim of another worker from that studio.

The claim is that the studio may have even know but done nothing.

That being said... Helix at the time was more pro-am (meaning bordering between professional and amateur) than a true professional studio. Things have likely changed for them since then, and other than a claim from a former studio worker the case is speculation.

This is very rare for professional porn studios. Most of them want nothing more than their stars to be safe and healthy because that is where their money comes from. If a star gets an STD it jeopardizes everything within that studio.

May Chad Noel rest in peace.

3. It's surprising because the porn industry does MASSIVE testing and other precautions
to ensure the safety of their sex workers.

Obviously, the mom and pop fly-by-night assholes don't, but the legitimate porn companies (and that absolutely includes Vivid) are VERY careful with their talent.

39. hey now - talent has many forms!
bush was talented at being a sociopathic narcissist, for instance.

and, at least before viagra, the ability to perform on camera, on cue, was an innate 'talent' you either had or you didn't. probably still is, to a lesser degree. if you add to that the requirement for endowments of a certain dimension, shall we say, that combination is pretty rare.

12. How long does it take HIV to show up in a test?
I thought it was 30 days or something, but does it show up within the week? Even if they're tested weekly it seems like there would be a lag there where it could still be spread.

Geez, and besides the video shoots, many of the porn stars are all hooking up off camera as well. scary stuff!

I would MUCH rather bail the porn industry out than bail the derivatives industry out.

In reality there's quite a bit of similarity between the porn industry and the derivatives industry: porn actors and derivatives customers both eventually get screwed. The difference is, the porn actors like it.

I don't like most of the free stuff. It's often times older, or just clips, or "too professional" or "too amateur" or the models aren't as hot as they could potentially be.

I guess it's just up to taste.

Plus, I know people who work in the industry and maybe that makes a difference. Idk.
