AP-GfK Poll: Likely voters ready to embrace GOP

WASHINGTON – All signs point to huge Republican victories in two weeks, with the GOP now leading Democrats on virtually every measure in an Associated Press-GfK poll of people likely to vote in the first major elections of Barack Obama's presidency.

In the final survey before Election Day, likely voters say the GOP would do a better job than Democrats on handling the economy, creating jobs and running the government.

Most also think the country's headed in the wrong direction. More than half disapprove of Obama's job performance. And even more don't like the Democratic-controlled Congress.

Neither party is popular. But likely voters view the GOP a bit more positively than they do the Democrats. Slightly more say they will vote for the Republican congressional candidate in their district over the Democrat. And most think the GOP will win control of Congress from the Democrats.

"If we get some new blood in there who will do what the people want, maybe this can get turned around," said Sharon Klawender, 70, who lives in rural Kingston in Michigan, one of the most economically troubled states. She hopes Republicans will "get things back under control."

16. Typically a "likely voter" is
Someone who has voted before or answers the question "how likely are you to vote in the upcoming election" with the very likely or somewhat likely option. Depends on the pollster, could be a combo of the two, but it's often also based on other historical trends/statistics and studies of voters. If you've voted before you're most likely to vote again. I'm sure there is more but that is the gist of it. Likely voter polls are typically more accurate than registered voters since turnout in the US is not very good.

4. Nothing but pure
Bull shit! I keep on hearing this same thing over and over from the so called "liberal" media, the one owned by all those right wing morons! This is simply a last ditch attempt to try and discourage democrats from getting out and voting, nothing else. Sure I will admit we will lose some seats, but it will be nothing like what the media keeps saying day after day after day! Democrats need to make sure and vote, encourage all your friends who are democrats to vote, and if we all vote we can make the media eat their words!

The only thing worse than this BS is having to listen to Dino Rossi ads over and over again on the local Spokane TV channels! There are 3 or 4 ads of his to one of senator Murray's, at least it seems that way. Some paid for by him, some by the GOP senatorial committee, and some are coming out now from Roves group. I think it's a lost cause, but they sure are putting a lot of money on this two time loser! I can't wait for him to become a "3" time loser!

6. I'm ready to embrace the GOP...with both hands around its Reaganesque turkey neck.
And I'm ready to squeeze until I stop the flow of excrement that has been pouring out of its collective mouth.

I bet they didn't have a survey question that asked that.

15. Haven't had much "fun" politically, in a couple years, since the Other Side keeps winning
...even when "Our" Side is ostensibly in power.

That said, I posted simply because the article is indicative of the ongoing MSM narrative, and nobody really knows what's going to happen, a couple weeks hence...

Unless I've been in an alternate reality, the last 2 congressional races we won.

Yes, I was having a little "fun," too, to get your reason for posting without remarks.

Unless I've been in an alternate reality, we compromise before we get to the table, continue egregious policies on snooping, torture, LGBT rights, etc.

19. And hence, this election to change that.
I was strictly responding to your OP's dire prediction of the election itself. Therefore, understood you to mean we "keep losing elections."

Absolutely not, just further probing to understand your position since, as I stated, before the races are tightening and whittling of the gap continues at a good pace.

32. Getting back to your original OP of GOP takeover,
As you said, "I posted simply because the article is indicative of the ongoing MSM narrative, and nobody really knows what's going to happen, a couple weeks hence..."

So the answer is (drum roll, please) We'll just have to VOTE find out. Won't we?

to vote GOP. This is hyped CRAP. It is CLOSE ! MANY races are CLOSE ! There is NO guarantee of a RePUKE sweep. NONE ! It is all about GOTV and the ground operation, and the Dems are WORKING. If we work hard, we have a good chance to hold the House and do alright overall. I can say in Maine our congressional members ARE going to win, we will hold the Maine House, we may well hold the Maine Senate which is closely divided already, and we have a good shot at the governor's race. This is FAR, FAR from over. AP is a REPUBLICAN corporate propaganda mill little better than FAUX Noise. FUCK THEM. Go canvass and phonebank. Give them a great big shitburger to eat.

...or anything associated with them, like their polls. Over the last decade or so, I've noticed their "objective" reporting and "fact-checking" slanting more and more rightward.

I just consider the source of these reports - corporations with their own financial axes to grind.

45. Because if someone says they are unlikely to vote, they probably won't
Having done voting polls the options are usually:

Definitely will vote
Probably will vote
Unsure
Probably will not vote
Definitely will not vote.

With the first two options being the "likely voters". After all, if you aren't going to vote, your opinions don't matter.

So that won't sway their vote. They are more interested in keeping their guns, denying gay rights and outlawing abortion. And the best interest of the people be damned.
