Judge orders Miller documents released

By KYLE HOPKINS

In an unusual Saturday hearing, retired Superior Court Judge Winston Burbank ruled that the public's right to know about candidates outweighed Miller's right to privacy.

Burbank ordered no release until at least Tuesday, however, to allow Miller to appeal the decision to the Alaska Supreme Court. Some of the documents will be redacted, he said.

The case was brought by a group of Alaska news media organizations, who have been trying since summer to see borough documents concerning Miller's employment as a part-time borough attorney.

Miller, the Republican nominee, fought the release, arguing that any release of personnel records violated his privacy rights

2. I'm sorry, Villager,
I think we were posting at the same time. I think this is excellent news, but I hope the Alaska Supreme Court makes a decision on the inevitable appeal before next Tuesday.

11. Yeah I saw that.....
...but hey, that seat belongs to her!!! See?? Cause she's an Alaska-Murkowski -- so lying comes naturally. And besides, Daddy gave that Senate seat to her. On her um... 29th birthday! Yeah that's right!!!

I'm a daily Mudflat-reader. Because it feeds my fascination with all things Alaska!!! ;)

13. Oh, it's a real soap opera up here.
If you read Mudflats, you must know that by now. Alaska's politics is part of the reason why I love it here. It's never EVER boring.

6. Judge Orders Miller Documents Released
Source: Anchorage Daily News

FAIRBANKS -- A judge ruled today that the Fairbanks North Star Borough must release personnel records of Senate candidate Joe Miller.

In an unusual Saturday hearing, retired Superior Court Judge Winston Burbank ruled that the public's right to know about candidates outweighed Miller's right to privacy.

Burbank ordered no release until Tuesday afternoon, however, to allow for the decision to be appealed to the Alaska Supreme Court.

The judge said at least some documents being sought would not be released, and some would be redacted.

The case was brought by a group of Alaska news media organizations, who have been trying since summer to see borough documents concerning Miller's employment as a part-time borough attorney.

No doubt this will be appealed along with everything else about this election. Unless Scott McAdams can win this thing outright, Alaska will be a one-senator state for months, I fear.

10. What I can't understand is THIS MAN is running for the US Senate
people have a right to know all about him. If he wants privacy he shouldn't be running.

14. Exactly.
His followers don't seem to make that connection. They go on and on about his privacy rights, but can't seem to acknowledge that as his potential employers we are entitled to answers about his questionable employment history, especially since his past job was also in government. The thought that he was attempting to ballot-stuff (and might even try to do it again) doesn't even cross their little minds.

Aughghghghg ........ pfft .......... I'm so sick of these people.
