Mumbai luxury hotels booked for Obama's visit

Most of the rooms at the top luxury hotels in the city, including the Taj and the Trident, which were targeted during the 26/11 terror attacks, have been booked for United States President Barack Obama's visit next month.

Nearly 560 rooms in the Taj Mahal Hotel, 120 rooms in Taj President and 90 rooms each in Oberoi and Grand Hyatt have been booked in advance, a senior police official said on Friday.

At least 150 administrative staff and a special chef will accompany Mr. Obama.

On a request made by a non-governmental organisation, the First Lady, Michelle Obama, is expected to make a visit to the city's red light area, Kamathipura, the official said.

2. What the...? In related news, the secret service's purchase of antacid has quadrupled in the...
...last 4 months.

I would not let Obama visit that area under any circumstances. Or especially let the First Lady go along. The whole Mumbai attack only took 10 guys. I can't help but think this sort of visit is like red meat to those killers and even if Obama or the First Lady is not injured directly in what I have to presume is the inevitable attack on either he, she or the city itself, others will be.

Along with the President and the First Lady, my thoughts will be with all the various security organizations whose job it is to keep them and others safe from attacks. I'm not religious so I can't cast any of the "Godspeed" and "May God protect you" minor spells of protection but I am hoping Luck, or what passes for it in this world, is with all of them!

4. With all due respect, the Taj President Hotel looks about
like a top end business hotel in the US or Europe:

I don't think it's over the top for the President to have a suite (bed room & sitting room) when he travels.
