Khadr trial to resume without deal: lawyer
Source: CBC News

One of Omar Khadr's Canadian lawyers says his client's war crimes trial will resume as scheduled Monday and that no plea agreement has been reached.

"All I can tell you is there's a trial tomorrow and there's no deal in place as of this particular moment," Dennis Edney said Sunday, speaking to reporters covering the trial in Cuba.

In the last two weeks, speculation emerged about a deal that would see Khadr, 24, plead guilty to five war crimes charges, including killing a U.S. soldier in Afghanistan in 2002.

Nathan Whitling, Khadr's other civilian lawyer, said a plea bargain, if reached, may not be announced until Monday. "I'm hopeful," he said.

1. This has been one of the most sickening cases from the Bush regime and
nothing to brag about since. One fucking disgrace.

snip* International conventions to which the United States is a signatory call for rehabilitation for child soldiers instead of prosecution, but officials said they were not applicable here.

Also, the military judge presiding over the case, Army Col. Patrick Parrish, has dismissed defense motions to exclude reported confessions the youth made to interrogators who used harsh techniques, including threats of rape, in getting him to say he threw the grenade that killed Sgt. 1st Class Christopher Speer.

4. The Obama administration owns this farce and travesty.
It is not a war crime to defend your country from attack, even if you are not an official member of an army.

It is a war crime to torture detainees.

There should be a war crimes trial, just not this one.
