Outside Debate, Rand Paul Supporter Stomps On Head Of Woman From MoveOn.org

Source: Alan Colmes/Liberaland

Outside the Rand Paul-Jack Conway debate for the U.S. Senate seat from Kentucky, a Paul supporter stomped on a woman associated with the liberal group MoveOn.org.

People in the crowd pulled the woman’s blonde wig off. She claimed to be presenting Paul with an award from RepubliCorp. It’s a group created by move-on that focuses on what it calls the merger between corporate America and the Republican Party.

“I’m here to present Rand Paul with the Employee of the Month award, however his supporters were not very nice to me and my message which is same as everyone else. I got my head stepped on and I have a bit of a headache,” said Lauren Valle, MoveOn.org.

There isn't a damn thing they can say to justify wrestling her to the ground, let alone multiple people assaulting her, let alone stepping on her.

There is no excuse. There CAN be no excuse.

She's an activist. She put on a wig and tried to break through a candidate's security to personally confront him.

She got exactly the reaction she was hoping for.

246. I think if a conservative activist tried to break through
a Democratic candidates security to confront the candidate with a sign or whatever, our reactions to the candidate's supporters throwing her to the ground and calling for the police would be significantly different.

We'd all condemn the guy who stomped on her head, regardless of which side it happened on, but tackling her and pulling off her "disguise"?

As for her goal, I suspect getting stomped on works a lot better for her than whatever her little protest thing was going to be.

209. Those Cowards
We needs to shake their foundations, using their own justifications against them. This group about a GOP corporate merger does that. Ron/Rand Paul supporters are a group that needs to be dealt with. They try to say they are off from the GOP establishment. But they are corporate liberals, as the GOP are. They want even more deregulation, they're even more corporate servants and traitors.

The Thomas Jefferson they think they new is rolling in his grave. He'd have 'em rounded up if he'd been president in these times. He said clearly we had to crush corporate aristocracies that even in his time was rising. He saw how the rich preyed on the poor and he HATED IT. The financial elites, they can't hold power, without the complicity of those 'below them' like these idiotic supporters!

Ready to change the language? I don't mean just carry on like Billow Riley. I mean stop asking how they can support policies that put people in the street, or starve kids. THEY DO NOT CARE. They're using 'Constitutionality' and 'Patriotism' to justify their selfishness. Call THAT to task. Say it loud-say it clear. Tea Partiers, Libertarians, you are NOT true patriots. You work against our liberty!

When I predicted that the economy would take a dump in 2005 (i was not here then) i got all kinds of crap about it. I told my mom to pull her money market and stocks and put them in something safe like a savings account..she actually listened for a change and did so. I got called a doomer and gloomer. I have been kind of watching these hate groups for years. It was only matter of time before they got to crazed to contain themselves. We may have to actually defend our selves from them. I have in the past.

As I have taken great pains to show at http://Liberal-Insights.org/liberalvsconservativemartyrs.html ,
Conservatives are MUCH MORE VIOLENT than liberals when it comes to dealing with opponents.

Whereas liberals compete, and WIN, with WORDS, conservatives resort to "2nd ammendment remedies" to defeat their liberal opponents.

211. That's right brother.
That's what I highlight above. They'll get really antsy if we call out that the things they think they 'stand for' and 'fight for' are liberties. They're violating liberties and the Constitution. They need to be taken to task on that. Maybe make them realize they're being duped by these who'll call themselves their saviors, and their role-models. Rand & Ron Paul. Ronald Reagan. Milton Friedman. Ayn Rand.

Their platform is self-centeredness. They are sociopaths. Their goals will hurt many more US citizens than help. Making them anti-American and un-American. They'll hate to hear that, they'll push back, but it's the truth. Maybe a young lady like that in a crowd of them isn't the safest way to express that. But it's work that needs to be done. She was brave and I am glad she wasn't seriously hurt.

Sorry, I know that it's not a popular sentiment, but, speaking for myself, I'm not a person who's just going to get stepped on, literally. When you're confronting violent people, the ability and willingness to defend yourself against assault needs to be a given.

185. Have you ever heard the term
'curbing' or something like that. I think it's where the person being beaten has their mouth open at the edge of a curb and someone stops them in the back of the head causing the jaw and teeth to break. :wtf:

The Tea Parties are brownshirts. We all saw this garbage with Clinton. The GOP never accepts that they can lose an election.
In the fall of 1999, I had a conversation with a former acquittance who made it clear he was an admirer of Mussolini's tactics(I kid you not, this is TRUE!)! :wtf::wtf::wtf::wtf::wtf::wtf:
He also said he had no problem with the impeachment of Clinton, as he believed that they(Republicans/Right wingers) have the right to do whatever is needed to take power,
including de-legitimatizing an duly elected President.

Theocracy is just a tool for them to control people, facist plutocracy or feudalism with the rich as nobles is what they want and will do anything at all to achieve. That's why so many of the Repugs get caught in affairs, they only use religion to control the sheeple and don't believe one damn word of what they are saying. Craven and disgusting are about the best things I could say about them.

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2010/10/25/913588/-Woman-Assaulted-and-Stomped-By-Rand-Paul-Supporters

Lauren was there as part of Moveon.org's latest campaign to present Rand Paul with the Employee of the Month Award from Republicorp™ and several people in the crowd surrounded her, stripped her of a blonde wig and wrestled her to the ground. One man is seen stomping on her head as she lays on the sidewalk

During the Health Care Debate, in Missouri, Kenneth Gladney knocked over a disabled SEIU worker, and was pushed down in the ensuing effort to help the man up. It was said that he was "beaten down by SEIU uinion thugs" even though the video told a different story.

In this video, there is no "story".

(video still processing. It is available Here until it comes up, but I had trouble viewing it there, please be patient)

http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2010/10/male-rand-paul-supporter-stomps-head-of-female-moveon-member-outside-debate.php

MoveOn's political director Ilyse Hogue tells TPM that Valle is in the hospital and they're awaiting word on her condition. We'll get you more information when we have it.

We have a call out to the Lexington police department's public affairs office for further comment. According to WTVQ, an assault report was filed but there have been no arrests.

In a separate incident, according to the Kentucky Post, "a Conway supporter stepped on the foot of a female Rand supporter, who recently had foot surgery. The woman was wearing a surgical boot, but after the injury, her incision was cut open. Police say she refused medical treatment and also filed an assault report."

44. what is your problem?
you wanted that women to have blood drawn? you're sick.

It's still assault and battery by several people.

The following elements must be proven to establish a case for battery: (1) an act by a defendant; (2) an intent to cause harmful or offensive contact on the part of the defendant; and (3) harmful or offensive contact to the plaintiff.

Generally, the essential elements of assault consist of an act intended to cause an apprehension of harmful or offensive contact that causes apprehension of such contact in the victim.

The act required for an assault must be overt. Although words alone are insufficient, they might create an assault when coupled with some action that indicates the ability to carry out the threat. A mere threat to harm is not an assault; however, a threat combined with a raised fist might be sufficient if it causes a reasonable apprehension of harm in the victim.

Intent is an essential element of assault. In tort law, it can be specific intent—if the assailant intends to cause the apprehension of harmful or offensive contact in the victim—or general intent—if he or she intends to do the act that causes such apprehension. In addition, the intent element is satisfied if it is substantially certain, to a reasonable person, that the act will cause the result. A defendant who holds a gun to a victim's head possesses the requisite intent, since it is substantially certain that this act will produce an apprehension in the victim. In all cases, intent to kill or harm is irrelevant.

114. I think I know what he's getting at: "if it bleeds, it leads"
It's a well-known media maxim. I should point out that the Brownshirts of days gone by were allowed to get away with this very thing, and more (Godwin can go straight to hell on this one). The only way that can happen today is if "the story" keeps getting buried on page C-3. Depending on who the paper's editors decide to support, this particular incident could get buried, land on the front page- or receive no mention at all.

In this sort of situation, as sick as it makes me to say it, blood pushes the story to the front page, probably as a headline. The media is not about to paint the tea party "activists" as a mob of dangerous thugs unless people do get hurt, repeatedly. For this case specifically, attention will be drawn to what happened, of that much I am certain, but it will be a "major" story only if there is lasting injury to this poor woman.

That's just an observation, but it says one whole hell of a lot about the state of American mass media. Sensationalism and marketing have turned what should, by all rights, be a "top story tonight" into a coverage toss-up.

:grr:

This is shocking and troubling. Is the Tea Party a domestic terrorist group? 59. Conservatives denegrate liberals based on "morality". Just remember
they have no sense of morality to stop them from violence. Liberals, on the other hand, do. It's what makes us better than them and it's what makes us smarter than them. But it also makes us vulnerable to brute force attack. We have an obligation to protect each other because we have something of real value to protect. I sure hope Valle is ok. But this pisses me off. They fight for greed, we fight for the prosperity of of all living beings, present and future. Just because these libertarians and conservatives have their collective heads up their ass doesn't mean we must suffer their madness. A bunch of stupid pricks are what these people are. And they want it to come to blows. If we can succeed on our terms without violence, all the better. But we must not kid ourselves about what conservatives are capable of. They are as deranged as a cult and willing to act out on their delusions. We must be vigilent.

they feel emboldened by Rush and Beck.

If you haven't had a chance to watch the Rachal Maddo special, "The Assasination of Dr.George Tiller", you will see eerie similarities in the behavior. The Right to Life group continued it's relentless hate talk against Dr. Tiller and they finally had several nuts go after him with bombs, guns and eventually assasination.

We are seeing the same behavior with these Teabaggers.

They are going to lose next week, I expect the violence to get back over the next two years.

295. Agreed.
They are not going to do as well and will probably fail to take either house of congress at this point. Recent reporting about the infiltration of the tea party by racists and the attempted beating of a protestor by these right wing lunatics are going to discredit them and steal wind from their sails. This right wing resurgence is mainly a matter of media volume anyhow.

65. So upset watching the vid. And I wonder, do conservatives
have a stash of vids of democrats stomping heads, running them down, insulting their children or the handicapped or otherwise behaving like uncivilized thugs? I wonder, and I wonder how the incidents compare because this violence has meaning. This violence is not merely a measurement of anger, but a measurement of self control, desperation, understanding, mental stability... it isn't random and it isn't acceptable. Are our most fervent supporters as apt to kick somebody in the teeth as the fervent conservative?

I'm honestly curious.

69. My riff--
Tuesday, October 26, 2010Rand Paul Supporters step on a lady's head--WTF?

That is amazing. We've had people show up at rallies and protests and tea party things all these last couple years with tricorn hats, wigs, actual open-carry side-arms, you name it, and signs with commentary that has been--well, truly special and highly indicative of this nation's support of freedom of speech. But to see a person not merely heckled, which might be expected, if you think they support the "wrong team", but actually seriously physically assaulted, as if her opinion and right to voice it was a mortal threat?

What the hell is wrong with these people? This young lady was just engaging in some, um, Constitutionally-permitted freedom of speech? The correct response if one disagreed was a letter to the editor, a blog-post, a righteous "booing"? But to hurt a person just trying to get across a political message?

That is some brownshirt shit. That is not being about freedom of speech. That is actually about being insecure, certain that you'll be shown up, being a scared-ass punk that can't take criticism. So here's some more criticism: Rand Paul already has been a touchy weirdo about his personal beliefs and all--and now his supporters seem insecure, too--and violently so. Why are they scared? Why do they think a little criticism will hurt the campaign...huh? Because Rand Paul doesn't know shit from a hole in the ground, has a half-baked libertarian/christianist mash-up cynical whatever works philosophy, and because he's really just a chunk of his old man's stool that decided he had a POV at some point worth inflicting on other people? In other words, he's not just a bad candidate, he's probably a bad person, and his supporters, the die-hards, the people who would do a thing like this? Just suck and you shouldn't want to be like them! You can think Conway's a smarmy punk, and he is pretty, and maybe pretty smarmy--but he is a serious political character who is not a thug-magnet. As Rand Paul is. Whose supporters stepped on the actual head of an actual live lady, because they were very mad, and had no real good reason to be except that their candidate is a punk.

Any questions?

WTF! Doesn't that make it sound like she was the one in trouble and being investigated? Last time I checked, she has the right to attend a public event with a sign and wig. It was the "men" who threw her to the ground and stomped her head should be questioned. Both need to be charged with assault.

I wonder what their heroes, the FFs would think about three or four thugs throwing a woman to the ground and stomping on her head because she had a political sign they didn't like?

Their pictures should all be all over the internet. I wonder if the cops there will arrest them, and if not, is it a Federal crime to deny someone their Constitutional rights? I saw a comment on another blog (linked here I believe in the OP) from a guy who said he is a criminal defense attorney but can appear in Federal court and will call the KY cops tomorrow to see what is being done about it.

Good for bluebluegrass bloggers for getting the pictures.

I think that one is the stomper, a guy in a navy blue shirt threw here down and held her with another big, brave 'patriot' helping him.

Dick Army's Freedoms Works and Sal Russo's Tea Party Patriots have gotten millions
from insurance companies, Koch industries, big oil, and God knows what other groups
to whip up mobs to force the minority's will on the majority. Rush and Beck help to
fan the flames with their over the top language and Rand Paul's, "I will not shake his

149. I am not surprised that violence
has taken place at one of his events. Rand Paul (Ky) is against anything to do with the mere thought of any private business having to serve a person of color, but he thinks racism is abhorrent. He doesn't think it is the Federal Government's position to enforce civil rights on private business owners. This is a Jim Crow Jr. type of attitude with some polish. Which makes me think there is already an element of hatred and discourse. Which doesn't take much to be pushed into violence. Then you have the astro turf part of the tea baggers oh i mean tea party, who would fuel it to the boiling point so they can say MoveOn member started the confrontation. Maybe if everyone asked the media outlet where this story is at you will get what we are getting, low key media mention.

The video I saw (both MSNBC and Fox), he seemed to be stepping on her shoulder, not stomping on her head.

Regardless, this is assault at the least, and should be persued as such.

In the mean time, it also seemed to be the act of a lone individual, not any sort of conspiracy or organised violence, so some of the rethoric around here is severely out of place.

I hope the victim can identify the man who assaulted her so that he can be criminally charged or sued.

It's important that he be identified not just for the sake of justice for the victim but to determine if the man was an agent provocateur posing as a Rand Paul supporter.

I guess Rand Paul endorses violence. Certainly his rhetoric encourages this kind of behavior.

This type of actual violence is now common place and promoted by the Republicans and all one has to do is turn on Right-wing Hate Radio to understand it, even better than I can explain.

This new incarnation of right wing Republican extemists if able to do so, would commit many, many more acts of violence such as this as well.

223. So an unknown woman wearing a wig tries to break
through volunteer security surrounding Rand Paul, knowing that these people are paranoids who think that the CIA wants to assassinate both Rand and Ron Paul and keep them from saving Amurka, they discover she's wearing a wig and throw her to the ground and call for the police.

It's on the audio, they are all saying "get the police," "get the police"...

One of the "thugs" holds her down with a foot while she tries to get up. Another "thug" says to him "hold on, that's enough" or words to that effect...

And this is jackbooted thuggery equivalent to stormtroopers rounding up dissidents and gassing them?!?

But you cannot blame the victim for the paranoia of the perpetrators. A wig is not a weapon.

She did end up with a concussion and a sprained arm. The perpetrators used more force than necessary if all they wanted to do was restrain her.

1) The female Rand supporter deliberately stepped on the victim after she was down. 2) One of the men put his foot on the victim's neck and shoulder and pushed her forcibly into the pavement, also after she was already down and being restrained.

Even IF there was some distorted reasoning that led to the initial action which ended with the victim on her side on the pavement being held down by one or two much larger men, the two acts above occurred well after the victim had been restrained, and are simply assault.

249. Sure you can blame her.
She knew dang well who they were and probably had a good idea how they would react.

Activism carries risk, and what she intended was clearly provocative.

Why wear a wig? Why try the confrontation in the middle of the candidate's moving from one spot to another and not when he's settled and addressing an audience? The people there had no idea who she was or why she was in disguise or why she was trying to break through to the candidate.

If you actually listen to the audio, there are several of them calling for the police.

It's ridiculous to assume they "hate free speech" or that they're "jack booted tenny-wearing thugs" because they stopped her and held her for the cops.

From what I saw, one asshole stomped on her, while other people were telling him to lay off.

But they're all "thugs" and "goons" and "fascists", right? Because of course, they aren't democrats or liberals, so they must be fascists, right?

What a load.

No more nor no less than we can blame the same on any citizen who wishes to go to a political rally.

These teabaggers are bullies and scum-- EVERY SINGLE FUCKING ONE OF THEM!!

Sending ten bucks I can't afford to www.moveon.org

276. Took a while-but one of the tea baggers did step up.
Laura Graas is a teapartier who actually went through a bit of effort to figure out who it was.
I still do think it unfortunate that they were not called out ON THE SPOT. But Ms Grass did step up.
Thank You Laura.

241. Stomper was Paul Campaign Staffer...

LEXINGTON, Ky. — A Rand Paul supporter is apologizing after he was seen on video stepping on a liberal activist's head.

Tim Profitt, a volunteer with the Republican's U.S. Senate campaign, told The Associated Press on Tuesday that the camera angle made the scuffle Monday night appear worse that it was. He criticized police for not stepping in and says other supporters warned authorities about the activist.

Lauren Valle, a 23-year-old with the group MoveOn.org, was wrestled to the ground by Paul supporters when she tried to confront the tea party favorite with a fake award. Valle said Tuesday she was sore and swollen.

The Paul campaign cut ties with Profitt, removing him from his role as Bourbon County campaign coordinator and banning him from campaign events.

Guess the police will be arresting him soon?

Kentucky Stomper Identified As Paul's (Now Former) Bourbon County Coordinator
Brian Beutler | October 26, 2010, 3:29PM

The Rand Paul campaign has just severed ties with their Bourbon County coordinator -- a man by the name of Tim Profitt -- who has identified himself as the supporter who stomped on the head and neck of a MoveOn activist outside of the Senate debate in Lexington, KY last night, according to Fox News.

Profitt apologized for the scuffle to the Associated Press this afternoon, and apparently told them that the camera angle made the incident appear worse than it really was.

The Kentucky blog "barefoot and progressive" was the first to identify Profitt as the likely assailant in a series of posts today.

247. The nature of the award explains the
reason for the incident.
She was pointing out the connection between soul-less corporate America and this candidate.
The information, if anyone had chosen to follow it up, would have been damaging to Paul.
They subdued her brutally.

269. Okay, here's my question:
On the Youtube version of the video, without the local news broadcast, (which I saw first at DailyKos) at about 6-7 seconds out of 33, it looks like there's a cop already there. After Rand gets out of his SUV, he walks over the curb, and on his right is a man in what looks like a local police/state trooper uniform. What the hell was he doing?! The actual stomping happened within 15 seconds after that.

and I don't know that we would want them to be.

The only person responsible for stomping this woman is the guy who did it. That will probably be glossed over, as "taking personal responsibility" is a phony conservative tenet, just like "Family Values" "Domestic Security" and "less government spending".

(Short answer: the cop was probably looking at Rand Paul, and not the perimeter activities)

277. Definitely.
And let's not forget that more than one person was involved. The guy who threw her down may have caused her to hit her head, and may have even groped her in the process (according to the video screenshots I've seen).

I just want to make sure no cops turned a blind eye to what would have been pretty obvious, what with all the people yelling "get the cops!" But the cop on the video probably just followed Paul into the event.

286. This incident is really disturbing
This woman was exercising her right to free speech and she has these thugs tackle her to the ground and assault her.
All this while valiantly defending the Constitution and wearing "Don't tread on me" pins. What utter pieces of shit.

I don't care what candidate, movement, proposition, amendment anyone is in favor of or against. Our society will collapse if freedom of speech is not honored in everyday discourse however unpleasant to the opposition.

Political discourse is one thing, but crossing the line by becoming violent is just wrong. I'm glad that the woman was not severely injured. The guy is just a thug and didn't not help his candidate's cause.

289. C O W A R D! Someone with a psych degree please explain
to me why it is that people who publicly project a tough-guy persona are the most cowardly people on earth.

My friend was shot in the head while he was unarmed two months ago by a little man who boasted about how he was a Black-Belt. Most pro-war politicians seem to be a bit squeamish about actual combat. And they all seem to be drawn to the Republica Party. Why?
