Lauren Valle, head stomping victim: 'I saved myself' from Rand Paul's Tea Party supporters attack
Source: ny daily news

The young woman filmed getting her head stomped on by a Rand Paul supporter before Monday's Senatorial debate in Kentucky -- and now finds herself in the eye of a national storm -- is a Columbia University graduate who for five years called New York City home.

In an interview with the Daily News, Lauren Valle, a 23-year-old MoveOn.org activist, recounted the harrowing experience as she tried to approach Paul, a Tea Party favorite, just before his final debate with Democrat Jack Conway.

"They tried to grab me and chased me around Rand Paul's car," she said of the politician's supporters."And once I'm in front of the car, they take me down…I remembered someone stomping my head in the ground."

...

Valle said she instinctively got into the fetal position and covered her head with her hands.

"I think I saved myself from further injury," she said.

...

Before the melee, Alex Giblin, a 24-year-old volunteer with MoveOn, told the Daily News he heard one of Paul's supporters say"We might have to take someone down."

Valle was later taken to a hospital, where doctors told her she suffered from a concussion.

Police have said they are still trying to find the suspected assaulter, who has not yet been identified. Both the Paul and Conway campaigns have condemned the attack.

17. I think if she had a few male companions those guys would've thought twice.
They picked on two defenseless women as far as I understand.

24. I hear ya
If I had been in the vicinity, it would have been on! :grr:

If that was my wife, sister, friend or family member they stomped, I'd be hunting them down for a beating. But then again, if it was my wife, she probably would have broken somebody's arm herself. She's a big mean redhead woman! :D

2. They hate women. Particularly if they are liberal.
Edited on Tue Oct-26-10 02:07 PM by AspenRose
I am thinking back to the debate in Nevada; women were attacked there too.

And the blame-the-victim comments on the news page are just luverly. :puke:

5. He hasn't been identified as the stomper.
He has been identified as the one who threw her to the ground.

22. If he doesn't get charges with a serious assault crime, we're in deep, deep trouble.
And I don't mean from the standpoint of elections.

I mean it in the sense of the Nazis.

7. Rand Paul MUST BE INCLUDED in the criminal complaint
Rand Paul HIMSELF MUST BE INCLUDED in the criminal complaint as an accomplice, with potential felony implications. Such a claim then MUST be trumpeted FAR AND WIDE to indicate the USUAL republican tactics of winning through both financial and physical intimidation, and should be ANOTHER reason to implicate the ENTIRE republican party as NOT just a "political organization," but for the organized massive criminal corporation for what it stands for.

8. Men publicly beating a woman. It takes a lot to shock me, but this does.
I didn't really think it possible, even for rapid Tea Partiers and delusional Libertarians. Usually they espouse quaint, faintly condescending "Never hurt a woman" type BS. Here we see more than one happy to publicly beat women. I am speechless, really.

9. stomper paul volunteer...

LEXINGTON, Ky. — A Rand Paul supporter is apologizing after he was seen on video stepping on a liberal activist's head.

Tim Profitt, a volunteer with the Republican's U.S. Senate campaign, told The Associated Press on Tuesday that the camera angle made the scuffle Monday night appear worse that it was. He criticized police for not stepping in and says other supporters warned authorities about the activist.

Lauren Valle, a 23-year-old with the group MoveOn.org, was wrestled to the ground by Paul supporters when she tried to confront the tea party favorite with a fake award. Valle said Tuesday she was sore and swollen.

The Paul campaign cut ties with Profitt, removing him from his role as Bourbon County campaign coordinator and banning him from campaign events.

Call Lexington Police, demand his arrest...859-258-3600
or the FBI: 859-254-4038

18. Nah, I hear you. They would've never seen it coming, they profiled her and chose a weak target.
They knew damn well she was no threat.

21. She's not that kind of person.
Edited on Wed Oct-27-10 09:51 AM by madmax
I saw her last night being interviewed. This is a wonderful dedicated activist. I'm proud of her and hope she goes far in her endeavors. We need thousands like her. If she had a gun, regardless if she shot someone or not she'd be no better than them. And as well all know she is solid.

A toast to Ms. Lauren Valle :toast:
