Kerry blasts conservative 'no-nothingism' in USA
Source: AP

BOSTON — BOSTON (AP) - Sen. John Kerry says conservative talk show hosts and Republican political leaders are creating a "period of no-nothingism" in the country.

With his party braced for defeats in the mid-term elections, the 2004 Democratic presidential nominee told the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce Thursday that a Republican machine has engaged in "short-order, lowest-common-denominator, cheap-seat politics."

He urged business leaders to support thoughtful candidates. And he urged voters to reject the ones who ignore facts.

Kerry notes the $700 billion spent on the Troubled Asset Relief Program was requested by a Republican president, George Bush.

And he says $80 billion spent on the U.S. auto industry saved it, while the $787 billion economic stimulus program is creating jobs.

4. I don't think he was misquoted
It's keeping in line with the "Party of no" meme that the Democratic Party started last year. Of course, either label is still completely accurate.

7. Take a Good Look in the Mirror, Mr. Democrat
The GOP didn't do it alone. They had lots of help from really corruptible, timid, corporately co-opted clowns on your side of the Capitol.

17. Second that
Nature abhors a vacuum. When you don't have a spine and put up a fight, when you can't or won't articulate what is wrong with the other side and the status quo, you should not be surprised that know nothings fall for the falsehoods on the other side, and those who do know move on to people who will really fight for them and are capable of doing so.

9. Kerry:"We're in a period of know-nothingism in the country, where truth and science and facts don't
weigh in."

http://www.boston.com/news/local/massachusetts/articles/2010/10/28/kerry_says_democrats_have_been_fixing_gop_problems/

Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry unleashed a broadside Thursday against Republican "obstructionism," saying the GOP and its talk-show allies have created a "period of know-nothingism" in the country.

To underscore his claim, he said statistics show Republicans had blocked Senate business with filibuster tactics more during the past 18 months than the period between the end of World War I and the Apollo moon landing in 1969.

"The obstructionism is stunning," Kerry said, noting the country still lacks an assistant treasury secretary. "I think America really needs to know more of this kind of tactic and how it's shortchanging us."

Kerry urged business leaders to support thoughtful candidates. And he urged voters to reject the ones who ignore facts.

Wiki: "The Know-Nothing movement was a nativist American political movement of the 1840s and 1850s. It was empowered by popular fears that the country was being overwhelmed by German and Irish Catholic immigrants." - Sounds like the Know Nothings wanted their country back. The only difference with modern day teabaggers is that the Know Nothings were afraid of German and Irish immigrants while teabaggers want their country back from Hispanic and Muslim immigrants.
