She's everywhere: Whitman blankets Calif. with ads
Source: Associated Press

PASADENA, Calif. – It's hard to turn off Meg Whitman.

The most expensive campaign for governor in U.S. history — about $162 million and counting — is inundating California voters with an unprecedented array of TV and radio ads, glossy magazines, smartphone messages, Facebook videos, postcards and phone calls that will test how far a Republican dollar can go in a state Democrats often dominate.

A typical TV viewer in Los Angeles will see 23 of her commercials this week alone, many roughing up Democrat Jerry Brown, according to Democrats tracking her ad buys. The story of the Silicon Valley billionaire is being told in four languages — English, Spanish, Mandarin and Cantonese. There are book-like mailers, billboards and text messages reaching voters and supporters, all while she's jetting to appearances across the state.

It costs about $3 million for a candidate to blanket California with TV ads for one week, but from October 10-17 her campaign spent $4.6 million, underscoring the urgency of the effort and pushing her message from Spanish-speaking households near Los Angeles to rural areas on the Oregon border.

29. She's down 10 points in the latest poll

I predicted a while back she would lose by 15 points. Looks like I'm going to be right.

2. Wow - this is almost cartoonish
Where the evil cartoon figure knows they are losing, but go out in a finale fueled by their anger. This has been a largely self funded campaign - given the polls, she is simply burning more of her millions.

I wonder if she even picked up the audience cheering Brown when he, and not she, said he would end the negative ads? For all her business experience, she obviously has no idea that there is a saturation point beyond with one more ad adds nothing - and might annoy.

3. jerry got her though
she put out an ad saying she came to CA 30 years ago because it was a place where great things could happen, where dreams could come true. Then Jerry played that clip and asked - who was governer at that time ?- yep Jerry Brown. I laughed out loud - priceless!!!

She is up to something like $160 million now but is worth over a billion, so she has a ways to go.

19. Shit, I have absolutely no fucking idea what in the world I could spend.........
.......$160 million dollars on. I mean I would set my kids up and buy a new car (not a fucking Maserati), but what in the fuck do you spend 160 million dollars on? Probably would have been nice to donate some to specific charities, but this bitch obviously has no fucking compassion.

24. Whitman has been very stingy about giving unless it directly impacts her

Meg Whitman chips in to protect homestead

When it comes to giving, megamillionaire Republican gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman really does believe that charity begins at home.

Or very close to it.

According to financial records, the largest donation from Whitman's tax-exempt family charitable foundation in 2008 - the most recent for which figures are available - went to protect land on the outskirts of Telluride, Colo., where she and her husband own a condo and a ranch.

It was 2007 when Whitman, who was still the CEO of eBay, pledged to chip in $1.15 million from her family charity to a $50 million campaign that kept 572 acres of meadows and wetlands near the resort town from being turned into condos and a golf course.

12. Zero.
Had she not spent it running for office, do you think she would have spent it on hungry kids instead? The kids weren't getting that money either way.

15. ... Richard Bever, a 62-year-old voter from Sonoma who declines to state a party affiliation, said
he is voting for Brown, who served as governor from 1975 to 1983, because "he's done it before and he knows how government works." Bever, a retired accountant, added: "I don't like Meg Whitman. I don't like any of her ideas, and I don't think there is anything that she could do to help us in our state" ...

This is a brilliant ad that showcases just how out of touch Whitman is. A good, positive ad for Brown, with a hell of a punch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WEPlZYp5-Pk&feature=player_embedded

While she's just throwing money at her losing campaign, not having an idea in her head what else to do besides BORE THE SHIT OUT OF US with even more of her same stupid ads!!

I can't imagine there is one Californian, including ones that are voting for her, that aren't SICK TO DEATH of seeing her and hearing her GRATING VOICE every time you turn on the TV or the radio.

Just look at all the wealth getting injected into the economy.

I hope it's supporting a few jobs, at least.
