Arkansas school board member to resign over anti-gay post

(CNN) -- A school board district member in Arkansas who came under fire for an anti-gay post on a social networking site regrets the comments and will resign his seat, he told CNN's Anderson Cooper on Thursday.

"I'm sorry I've hurt people with my comments," Clint McCance, vice-president of the Midland School District in Pleasant Plains, Arkansas said. "I'm sorry I made those ignorant comments and hurt people on a broad spectrum."

McCance wrote on his personal Facebook page that he wanted gay people to commit suicide, according to The Advocate, a newspaper focusing on gay news.

McCance used the terms "queer" and "fag" repeatedly, promised to disown his own children if they are gay and stated that he enjoys "the fact that give each other AIDS and die."

11. After just having watched that creep on Anderson Cooper, I

agree, he's still nothing more than human garbage. He's not sorry he said what he did, he's only sorry he got caught and that there was fallout that affected his family. He was asked about disowning his kids if they're gay when they grow up and said, "I don't know what I'd do at this point." He's still full of hate and he's still an ignorant bigot.

16. That's not quite the impression I got

No, he hasn't "turned over a new leaf" - but he HAS gotten a big fat faceful of what his hate deserves, and it seems to have knocked him on his ass and caused him to start reevaluating himself. Even if just a little, I'm willing to grant it's more than a lot of assholes in his position would do. It's certainly more than I expected to see.

Now lwt's see him actually put his apology into motion; people are gonna be watching his ass from now on and I think he ealizes it.

Further into the story, there is a mention of "thousands of responses in support". If people think this idiot is a danger, those thousands are the real danger.

Would this individual have had to hide is family and install an alarm if he allowed his ignorance and personal bigotry take hold of what few firing synapses he has?

I guarantee that in a small community, his "hurtful views" were accepted as part of the culture. The fact he got elected at all is a crime, even more so to a school board.

It's a rare thing that a bigot can change his or her nature, and I did not see much remorse in his interview with Anderson; but I will give the guy credit for at least acknowledging that his comments hurt others. People can change --- maybe he can, but that means he wants to. In that regard, I have not a clue.
