Sweden says US has carried out secret surveillance
Source: Associated Press

STOCKHOLM – People linked with the U.S. Embassy in Stockholm have performed surveillance activities in Sweden without the knowledge of the host nation's authorities, a government officials said Saturday.

The surveillance has been going on since 2000, but Swedish authorities are still not aware of how widespread the practice was, said Justice Minister Beatrice Ask.

"It seems as though we haven't been fully informed and that's not good," Ask said.

Ask said it is not clear whether Swedish law has been violated, but that she expects U.S. authorities to cooperate with the Swedish investigation on the matter.

17. Maybe the problem the U.S. has with Sweden
is that it has a tendency to act ethically and has a high standard of living - even though it's just crawling with Socialists.

Really, it's the kind of country that could be a real threat to those running the U.S. If the American public ever took a long, good look at the Swedish system, it could be very dangerous for our government.

That we have an entire agency devoted to spying. We call it the CIA. Did they think they had a special exemption?

9. The CIA does more than just spy
It does other hilarious things, like undermine legitimate governments and torture and kill people, sometimes completely innocent people.

13. The CIA should be dismantled along with the other 50 or so secret intelligence agencies
we presumably have --

PLUS each of our military services has an intelligence wing!!

Any questions about what we are actually preparing for and doing????

7. It is bad form to spy on a host nation from within.
Spy from a nearby county, just so US government workers and American NGO's don't run the risk of arrest and expulsion.

every other nation. It's all part of the game, did they miss that memo?

10. Sweden's population is about 2% of the U.S.
And their government spends most of its resources improving the living standards of its people. That's the memo they got.
