Source: USA Today

By Doyle Rice, USA TODAY

2010 tied with 2005 as the warmest year of the global surface temperature record, according to data released today by the National Climatic Data Center. Records began in 1880. The Earth's temperature was 1.12 degrees F above the 20th-century average, which was the same as 2005.

It was the 34th-consecutive year that the global temperature were above average, according to the data center. The last below-average year was 1976.

The global land surface temperatures for 2010 were the warmest on record at 1.8 F above the 20th-century average.

Warmer-than-average temperatures occurred for most of the world's surface. The warmest temperatures occurred throughout the high-latitude regions of the Northern Hemisphere, Canada, Alaska, the tropical Atlantic Ocean, the Middle East, Eastern Europe and northern Africa.

2. I'm sure the deniers won't believe a word of it ....
However, their children and grandchildren might, since they will be living it.

3. If you lived out in the country in Canada
you would know it is terrifyingly true. First Nations people and Inuit could tell deniers a thing or two.

Where I live in eastern Ontario the frogs, turtles, honeybees, bumblebees and many birds are disappearing. My area is two garden zones warmer. I can grow things that never would have survived before. I am 72 and wonder if I will go out like the old geezer in SOYLENT GREEN.

My poor innocent adorable grandchildren don't deserve this.

So there's snow --so what? Idiots!

6. Why oh why do they publish this in the winter?
Even here in Florida we will be in the upper 20's tonight.

You know the timing of this will just make people doubt the results. The reaction of those who don't understand the science will be "B.S. in my town this has been the coldest winter in ages".

*sigh* I would save some of us a lot of explaining if they released this information in August.
