China hits back with report on U.S. human rights record
Source: xinhuanet

BEIJING, April 10 (Xinhua) -- China retorted the U.S. criticism on its human rights situation by publishing a report of the U.S. human rights record on Sunday.

The Human Rights Record of the United States in 2010 was released by the Information Office of China's State Council, or cabinet, in response to the Country Reports on Human Rights Practices for 2010 issued by the U.S. Department of State on April 8.

The U.S. reports are "full of distortions and accusations of the human rights situation in more than 190 countries and regions including China. However, the United States turned a blind eye to its own terrible human rights situation and seldom mentioned it," China's report said.

The United States has taken human rights as "a political instrument to defame other nations' image and seek its own strategic interests," the report said.

China and the rest should have been screaming during the Bush years. Oh that's right we were "attacked" so be nice everyone, and don't mention what we do to others as we accuse you of inhumane treatment. LOL! Got it. Aren't we something. Our shit don't stink. USA! USA! USA!

32. This is about OUR human rights record. It doesn't matter for the purposes
of this discussion is China does or doesn't have the worst human rights record in the world.

We have no right to poke at others when our human rights record STINKS. Bradley Manning comes to mind. x(

I have to make screen captures of news articles and then email them to my friend in China since websites carrying those articles are blocked in China. By the way, he can't get DU either.

Yes, we knew already the US human rights record isn't what our propaganda says. But the parts of the Chinese report I read are sloppy in a lot of ways; it's just hitting back rather than a thoughtful analysis.

36. see, most of us could tick off a thing or two they missed
The same thing went on during the Cold War - the USSR pointing to things like racial discrimination in the US as part of the superpower PR competition.

I'm slightly worried that the way this plays out is that, if you ever bring up something the Chinese mention in their report, it gets instantly dismissed because "that's what the Chinese said" (even if it is fact-based).

Though I suppose any discussion at all of these things could be deemed a form of progress...

25. Two wrongs make a right fallacy?
It's like they are unable to agree with the premise that these human rights violations must be addressed? Instead they are putting forth an analogy to argue for their position's acceptability, rather than defending their position on its own merits? If those Human Rights Reports are skewed they should be corrected, however they haven't come close to making a case for a lack of any such reports. Reports on human rights violations in the US should be published on their own, not "in response to".

http://www.state.gov/g/drl/rls/hrrpt/2009/eap/135989.htm">This '09 report touches on a lot of spots that the Chinese Government might not be comfortable with. And there certainly should be similar reports documenting all such activities in the US as well. Recognition is a key part of the self correcting process.

Woohoo! I'm loving reading this article -- finally, another country calling the U.S. on it's hypocrisy and human/civil rights failures! I hope other countries will have the balls to agree. I can predict those that'll remain silent, but there may be a few more with the guts to justifiably call bullshit when it comes to the sanctimonious judgments of the hypocrite PTB.
