But hope only gets ya so far, sometimes.

A fresh fire has reportedly broken out at Japan's stricken Fukushima nuclear power plant after a strong aftershock hit eastern Japan this morning.

The Reuters news agency quoted the plant's operators as saying crews were fighting a fire at Fukushima's No. 4 reactor.

The news broke as a strong earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.3 hit eastern Japan, shaking buildings in the capital Tokyo

12. It wasn't the Unit 4 reactor that caught on fire,
but something in Unit 4 sampling room. That fire appears to have been extinguished.

5. According to an NHK News article dated 12 minutes ago,
Edited on Mon Apr-11-11 07:13 PM by Art_from_Ark
there was smoke coming from a sea water sampling room, but no mention of the No. 4 reactor. Also, NHK says the sampling room fire, which appeared to originate from a battery, was extinguished.

6. No Nukes. They are pointless, expensive relics of a bygone era of dirty energy.

7. Yeah really dirty energy
The trouble with nuclear energy is when it goes bad it really goes bad in a big way and no one seems to know what to do. Its all seat of the pants now. Hope against wish, not very reassuring I might add.

10. another link - Fire at Japan's crippled nuclear plant, more aftershocks
(Reuters) - Engineers were fighting a fire at Japan's crippled nuclear plant on Tuesday as another major aftershock rocked eastern Japan, swaying buildings in central Tokyo and closing Narita airport runways.

Japan is considering raising the severity level of its nuclear crisis to put it on a par with the Chernobyl accident 25 years ago, the worst atomic power disaster in history, Kyodo news agency reported on Tuesday.

Operator of the crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant, 240 km (150 miles) north of Tokyo, said on Tuesday that its workers were fighting a fire near damaged reactor No. 4.

It was unclear how serious the fire was.

"Flames and smoke are no longer visible but we are awaiting further details regarding whether the fire has been extinguished completely," said a spokesman for Tokyo Electric Power Co (TEPCO).

15. NHK says the fire was extinguished quickly after it was detected
The article cites the likely source of the fire as a battery in the water sampling room of the No. 4 unit (not the reactor itself)
