Waukesha County Clerk Says She will not Resign

Kathy Nickolaus is asking Government Accountability Board and county auditor to make changes to practices and procedures in her office.
By Sarah Millard
A heavily criticized Waukesha County clerk said in a prepared statement Tuesday she will not quit despite calls for her resignation from the chairman of the Waukesha County Democratic Party.

The clerk, Kathy Nickolaus, has taken heat for not counting the city of Brookfield in the election night figures given to the media April 5. Because Brookfield was not included, it appeared state Supreme Court candidate JoAnne Kloppenburg had taken the lead over incumbent David Prosser. When the mistake was discovered during the Board of Canvassers, the results put Prosser above Kloppenburg by about 7,500 votes in an election that some where calling a referendum on Gov. Scott Walker’s controversial budget repair bill legislation.

“I will serve the remainder of my term,” said Nickolaus, who told the media Thursday she had forgotten to save the data before distributing the unofficial numbers. “I understand why people are upset, and I am taking this matter seriously. Again, I am sorry for my mistake. I have immediately begun the process of reviewing my procedures.

She says also she has asked the Government Accountability Board and the Waukesha County auditor to help to make sure this mistake doesn't happen again. :eyes:

“I will use the remainder of my term to restore the voter’s confidence in me.”

:puke:

1. I commit here & now to actively/aggressively campaign against her in her bid for re-election 2012

But I suspect she will not run.

We'll see.

It should be an easy sell to get rid of her... she risked disenfranchising the GOP and the Democrats surely would never vote for her.

2. You never resign.
That's like saying, "I did it!" You get indicted, found guilty, appeal, lose and take it all the way to the US Supreme Court. Barry Bonds' trial is up to $55 million in costs to taxpayers. That's the one to beat now.

3. "...I have immediately begun the process of reviewing 'my' procedures..."
"My" procedures?

Sounds like it's all about her and her "methods" -- not about the actual people's votes.

6. Oh please!
“I have also asked the Government Accountability Board and the Waukesha County auditor to assist my office in a review and
implementation of improved practices and procedures to make sure the process is more transparent and this mistake does not
happen again."

More transparent? Like keeping critical data on your own P.C. and finding a huge mistake and waiting more than a day and a half
to tell anybody about it all the time using an elderly democratic election worker as a foil for criticism but she has since said that she had
no idea where you got your #s from ...... 2006 20,000 more votes then people who cast ballots ..... 2004 huge turn outs for W far beyond
what anybody would expect ..... and every time you make a mistake it favors republicans?

7. I can hear the term "defiant" in the RW media already.
By golly, she's got some pluck to ignore all those baseless attacks on her, yessirree!

Anyone who can't see the fraud at work here isn't looking very hard.

8. Good! Now, let's see her marched out in cuffs for voter fraud...
the slight possibility that there could be even the slightest validation of her story is beyond the realm of those of us who know how people do these things. Investigate thoroughly, prefect charges if warranted and a full and open trial. If I even tried to vote illegitimately, I'd be hounded and taken to jail...this woman apparently committed voter fraud of a huge dimension and then gets a "pass"?
