Ron Paul likely to enter 2012 race in May
Source: cbs

Libertarian-leaning Texas Republican Congressman Ron Paul has formed a so-called "testing the waters" fundraising account ahead of a possible 2012 presidential run, Paul aide Jesse Benton confirmed to CBS News.

According to Benton, Paul "is close to making a final decision and it is better than 50-50 that he will enter the race in May."

A run by Ron Paul would almost surely mean that his son, GOP Sen. Rand Paul, will not seek the presidency. Rand Paul, who shares many political beliefs with Ron Paul, has been considering a run if his father does not seek the nomination.

Benton said that Ron Paul has already raised more than $1.2 million through his political action committee "to help him weigh his political options," adding that "he has the structure in place to hit the ground running if he makes the decision to run next month." Benton is the director of Paul's political action committee, LibertyPAC.

6. except he's never had the stones to actually leave the GOP
For all the criticism he spews out, Paul has been more than happy to use GOP money, resources and networking to keep his seat...

I'm sure the idea isn't unique.

BTW, I like RuPaul a lot. Great entertainer. RuPaul would make a far better candidate than Ron Paul, to be quite frank.

According to Benton, Paul "is close to making a final decision and it is better than 50-50 that he will enter the race in May." A run by Ron Paul would almost surely mean that his son, GOP Sen. Benton is the director of Paul's political action committee, LibertyPAC.

Money from Paul's testing the waters account could be transferred into a campaign fund if he decides to move forward with a run. The Texas Republican, who attracted a small but passionate level of support in his 2008 presidential run, has made repeated stops in the key early voting states of Iowa and New Hampshire in recent months.

14. Just one?
If only it were just one. The whole GOP field of Presidential hopefuls is filled with full on clowns.

Right now they all seem to be trying to see who can be in the center ring.

21. Make it a clown bus.
Edited on Thu Apr-14-11 02:02 PM by Mz Pip
Lots of seats in a bus, plenty for even more clowns. Santorum is entering the race, I heard. We need a couple more Southern clowns. Texas and Oklahoma have a few more who might want to sign on.

Maybe the Pauls can make it a family affair. Paul/Paul 2012.

13. Maybe in this climate, with the vocal Teabagger unhappiness w/the Republicans,
he might be a viable candidate. He sure raked in the money last time. I've no doubt he would have fared much better w/the baggers had the media not written him off.

I like a lot of his approach, but I know WHO he is, so he's not even an option for me.

Ron Paul, Donald Trump, Michele Bachmann ... and whoever the GOP actually nominates ... each getting about 15% of the national vote.

I love it.

23. I'd love to see him win the GOP
for a few reasons.

#1: A very few of his ideas are actually pretty good.
#2: He is not like most typical insider GOP peeps and could really shake up the whole "political process".
#3: During debates he could hopefully expose some of our bullshit policies like the "war on drugs".
#4: Best of all it will show how extreme some/most of his wacky ideas are - and will assure a Dem victory in 2012.
