The valuable perk will be replaced with a $300 monthly transportation allowance under a decision by a state panel that says the change will cut in half what taxpayers now spend on the legislators.

Jerry Brown is really being aggressive on cutting.

1. with what they're paid, they can buy and drive their own cars.
I don't get paid to drive to my place of work either. Neither should they. Take the other 300.00 too Mr. Brown.

3. No kidding.
Hey, I'm a state employee. I haven't seen the state offering ME a vehicle. Hell, I ride a bike to work every day because I could not afford the monthly parking fee

But then, I don't get a 90k salary - if I did, I might get a free car, too.

8. You are missing a point. As a social worker for vulnerable persons
I had to visit their homes, places of work and go to staffing all held outside the office. Some lived in foster homes way out of my district. I do not think they should have to use government cars but I think they should get mileage.

4. If you read your own link you will find Brown had nothing to do with it.
If fact he was in opposition to it and replaced the Chairman who pushed it.

5. Congress should be giving up perks as well. Where can we find a list of what they receive? I know
they receive cars.

7. I am assuming that they are to use their own cars when they have to
make trip? When you think about it paying mileage would be cheaper than owning a huge fleet of cars. No maintenance, no car purchases, etc.

9. Pizza delivery workers use their own cars too, and for a helluva lot less pay
so fuck that "ohhhhhhhh but we have to drive somewhere!"

It's part of the job, take it or leave it.

12. They have to pay for their own transportation?!?!?!
The horror.

I couldn't imagine how I'd get by if I had to pay for my own transportation.

Oh wait. . . .

13. Many Bay Area legislators commute from their homes to Sac
eighty miles each way, give or take.

Then again, they could pull a Joe Biden and ride the Capitol Corridor train that leaves Oakland for Sac every hour.
