DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — A national environmental group has begun airing TV ads in Des Moines and Cedar Rapids opposing legislation allowing MidAmerican Energy to charge customers in advance for construction of a new nuclear power plant in Iowa.

Nick Berning with Friends of the Earth says the ads began running Friday morning and will run into next week.

The ad begins with images of the Fukushima (foo-koo-SHEE'-mah) reactor in Japan and says MidAmerican wants to charge customers to build "risky new reactors" in Iowa.

The ad asks viewers to call the Iowa Senate and tell lawmakers that the rate increase is unfair and dangerous.

5. So what is it they do in Iowa? Farming new Nuke Corn and hay crops?
From Wiki: Iowa is a state located in the Midwestern United States, an area often referred to as the "American Heartland". It derives its name from the Ioway people, one of the many American Indian tribes that occupied the state at the time of European exploration.<5> Iowa was a part of the French colony of New France. After the Louisiana Purchase, settlers laid the foundation for an agriculture-based economy in the heart of the Corn Belt.<6> Iowa is often known as the "Food Capital of the World".<7> However, Iowa's economy, culture, and landscape are diverse.

In the mid and late 20th century, Iowa's agricultural economy transitioned to a diversified economy of advanced manufacturing, processing, financial services, biotechnology, and green energy production. Iowa has been listed as one of the safest states in which to live.<9> Des Moines is Iowa's capital and largest city.

7. Don't let them build it--too expensive, dirty, and centralized. It'll never be built and cost
the people of Iowa a buttload of money that could be used for efficiency, wind and solar instead.
