Group begins effort to recall Gov. Rick Snyder
11:48 AM, Apr. 18, 2011
ASSOCIATED PRESS

A recall effort is organizing against Republican Gov. Rick Snyder.

A group called Michigan Citizens United filed proposed recall petition wording with election officials today in Washtenaw County, Snyder's county of residence.

The group says on its website it plans to begin collecting voter signatures as early as next month if the wording on its petition is approved. The group says it will need about 807,000 valid signatures to make the ballot in November.

Michigan Citizens United filed paperwork for a political action committee last month.

GOP slams Gov. Snyder recall effort
Paul Egan / Detroit News Lansing Bureau

Lansing— The Michigan Republican Party today denounced an effort to recall Gov. Rick Snyder, citing links between the group behind the effort and the Michigan Education Association teacher union.

A hearing is set for April 29 in Ann Arbor after a group that wants to recall Snyder, Michigan Citizens United, filed its proposed petition wording with the Washtenaw County clerk today.

Michigan Citizens United is promoting the recall effort on its website, firericksnyder.org. The group, described by a spokesman as a grassroots coalition of union members and others angered by measures Snyder announced in his Feb. 17 budget, as well as his support for sweeping new powers for local government and school district emergency financial managers, said it hopes to start collecting signatures May 8.

Paperwork for Michigan Citizens United was filed March 23 by its treasurer, Gail Schmidt of Omer. Schmidt, who could not be reached, works for the Michigan Education Association, records show and her husband confirmed.

7. So the GOP
has no issues with their own links between Koch Brothers, Fortune 500 companies, ALEC, etc. and their influence on public policies?

Just sayin' :eyes:

8. How insulting! Just picking on the MEA?? What about the rest of us subversives??

What about AFSME? What about the UAW? What about the other labor unions, unemployed, and trickled upon working people who want to go after Snyder???

Once again the GOP fails to give people the respect, dignity, and blame they deserve. Blame me too!! I want to sign and get signatures!

The GOP minimizes the large base of Michiganders who will support a recall at their own risk. The dictatorial emergency financial manager bill, the give aways to the rich and bloated at the expense of the elderly, working class and poor, are making Snyder too many "friends' for their scoffing.
