breaking news

ST. LOUIS — An apparent tornado pummeled the St. Louis area late Friday, blowing out glass at the airport and overturning cars in the garage, authorities said.

An unknown number of people were injured at the Lambert-St. Louis International Airport, said Jerry Lea, spokesman for the airport. The extent of the injuries was not immediately known.

Lea said the injuries were believed to be from shattered glass.

The storm blew out glass on Concord C and upper-level terminals sustained some damage. Vehicles were reported overturned at the airport garage.

6. Did any of this weather hit KC?
I think I heard them say that flights are being diverted to Springfield MO.

I'm rather amazed that no one was killed by flying glass when windows blew out. Many, if not most airports have huge windows just like that, and in all my years of paying attention to airline stuff, I don't believe I've ever known of a airport being hit by a tornado. And as an ex airline employee, I tend to pay a lot of attention to anything airline related, but this is new for me.

9. Blown-out windows, stripped roof forces Lambert Airport to close

... Glass is everywhere in the airport's main terminal. Street signs directing traffic to area highways are uprooted and planted in the middle of the parking lot. People in the terminal were trying to call relatives to find their whereabouts or report their own situations.

Sky Capt. Carl Lawrence was inside by the baggage carousel area when the wind hit. "It rushed through the door and threw everybody against the wall," he said.

Ashley Thompson of Kansas City was at the airport with her mother to pick up her father, who was returning from Germany. She said she heard a whooshing sound and at first thought it was the air conditioning system. Then the wind came in and pushed them against the wall.

10. This is Global Warming ... which is bringing us more chaotic weather every day ---
increasing numbers of storms, hurricanes, tornadoes, cyclones, etal --

and increasing severity.

Also keep in mind that we had a 50 year gap in feeling the effects of Global Warming --

right now, we're about up to 1960 -- imagine all we did after that!!

ALSO, Global Warming will bring increased earthquakes -- and increasingly severe earthquakes.

Earthquakes in turn generate increased volcanic activity.

straight line winds at our home and a nearby tornado. No sirens sounded weather and when it passed, trees were uprooted, power lines down and our neighbor's roof had a branch trough it. We had a tree on ours. This is our future.

15. How many nuclear reactors do you have? Average is like two in every state -- !!
Supposedly it takes something like 6 months to properly shut them down!!

However, with the increasing wind/gusts we should need less windmills -- !!!

That's a plus -- :) :)
