U.S. considering sanctions on Syrian officials
Source: Reuters

(Reuters) - The Obama administration is considering a range of options against the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, including possible sanctions on senior officials, to pressure it to halt a violent crackdown, a U.S. official said on Monday.

The measures could include a freeze on assets and a ban on business dealings in the United States, the official said. There was no immediate word on when such sanctions might be imposed.

5. Sooo..what did President Bashar al-Assad do to get on US shit list?
The question makes sense, indeed it is very key, in light of this:

"Suddenly, it was possible to see the foundations of a U.S. world order that rested significantly on national leaders who serve Washington as loyal “subordinate elites” and who are, in reality, a motley collection of autocrats, aristocrats, and uniformed thugs."
and
"until they become insubordinate and expendable."

Very insightful article in a Tom Disptach article posted here earlier today.

6. Why are WE doing anything?
Between the Arab League and the United Nations, there are enough official channels to prescribe sanctions if needed.

We can't tell the entire world how to run their countries.
