Japan Postpones Nuclear Cooling

By MITSURU OBE

TOKYO—Officials postponed a plan to ramp up efforts to cool nuclear fuel at the stricken Fukushima Daiichi nuclear complex amid concerns that the use of thousands of additional metric tons of water could result in dangerous leaks.

Also Thursday, Trade Minister Banri Kaieda, who oversees Japan's top nuclear regulator, said executives at plant operator Tokyo Electric Power Co. should take additional pay cuts on top of the 50% reductions unveiled earlier this week. At a briefing Thursday, Mr. Kaieda said the decision on the remuneration should take into account "public feelings" toward the company, and implied Chairman Tsunehisa Katsumata and President Masataka Shimizu should give up their entire pay to take responsibility for the widespread radiation contamination caused by the troubled plant.

4. Why, by the way, is the entire world is not united in some sort of single-minded mission to...
...fucking stop this thing? It is puzzling, to say the very absolute...absolute least.

If you hear there's an asteroid headed for Earth, if this is any indicator, you can just kiss your ass goodbye. I think the best countries will do is hope they aren't hit directly or some silly shit like that.

6. Asking for international help would make them seem weak...
and reveal that they're not (at all) equipped to deal with the responsibilities of being a nuclear nation.

The current government and party would fall into oblivion.

Scary how it took an unknown Russian astronomer watching second-hand footage from a US telescope to spot this for the first time only 4 and a half months ago (December 10th, 2010).

12. Because it's only the Pacific Ocean -- !!! Just like it was only the Gulf Coast + residents -- !!
And in the end, it's ONLY planet earth -- !!

What is that when we're talking about corporate power to profit by exploiting nature?

Something the American people have continue to ignore?

9. They are between a rock and a hard place.
If they keep dumping water in it, the cracks will expand, and the water will simply rush out, and the fuel rods will overheat. If they stop dumping water on it, the fuel rods will overheat.

If p then q.

If not-p then q.

p or not p.

Therefore, q.

11. They are taking a pay cut over this?
They'd never get American execs to work under those conditions.
