Trump outlines his policies
Steve Friess
April 29, 2011 - 8:24PM

AFP

Donald Trump says that if elected president he would levy a 25 per cent tariff on all Chinese goods, occupy Iraq so America can keep its oil and charge South Korea for keeping US forces there.

The colourful and mega-rich US real estate mogul is not yet officially a candidate for the 2012 Republican race to oust Barack Obama, but he increasingly looks like one.

In a fiery and obscenity-laced address to a cheering crowd of more than 1,000 Republicans in Las Vegas on Thursday, Trump said he will decide by June 1 whether to run for the GOP nomination to oppose Democrat Obama.

But he sounded like a candidate as he ticked off attack after attack on Obama and several nations around the world whom he believes are mistreating the United States.

1. Occupy Iraq?
Awesome. You got my vote! :sarcasm:

Because, you know, it's cool that we rape, pillage and plunder as long as we get what we want out of it is what he's saying (at least that's what it sounds like to me).

18. Trump signature designs.............
Edited on Fri Apr-29-11 08:40 AM by Historic NY

Yes, that says "MADE IN CHINA." (That pink dress shirt retails, by the way, for $69.50.) Other pieces were made in Mexico and in Bangladesh.

Maybe the Chinese will leave out the thread in his next batch.

3. I didn't think science could actually find...
a Presidential candidate less intelligent or more shockingly politically naive than Sarah Palin. Congratulations, America.

This only validates my theory that the Republican powers-that-be are encouraging every circus clown they can find to enter the race to make Mitt Romney or (choking back vomit) Jeb Bush appear sane and reasonable.

11. Some odd Trump quotes from the article.
"Trump took repeated shots at China, and marvelled over Obama hosting Chinese leader Hu Jintao for a state dinner earlier this year, saying: "When people are screwing you, you don't give them a state dinner."

"They are abusing this country like we've never been abused before. Well, unless you count OPEC. They want to raise the price of oil. Why? Because we have nobody in Washington to say: 'You're not going to raise that ... price'." - The good ol' "America has the right to tell the rest of the world what they will and won't do" approach to foreign policy.

"Trump also mocked NATO's effort to protect rebels in Libya attempting to overthrow strongman Muammar Gaddafi. In a typical quip, he bellowed: "And who's the leader of the group? France. "France! They wanted to go in first. We haven't seen them since." - Guess he hasn't noticed France's participation.

"In the old days, when you had a war and you won the war, it was yours," he said." - Like WWI, WWII? What is he talking about?

12. Democrats are right about China and (gasp!) Trump is right about China, too.
"Trump took repeated shots at China, and marvelled over Obama hosting Chinese leader Hu Jintao for a state dinner earlier this year, saying: "When people are screwing you, you don't give them a state dinner."

Many of us on DU had the same take on the state dinner.

Many Democrats in the US House have grave concerns about China's government.

16. Trump has no basis for bashing China when all that crap he hawks in Made in China
Edited on Fri Apr-29-11 08:27 AM by LynneSin
Go to QVC and look up Melania Trump. All that cheap jewelry crap she hawks over there is Made in China - says so on the description of each of those.

Even the Trump business shirts he sells are all Made in China.

Trump is not the solution to what we should do for China. If he really cared he'd quit hawking this cheap "TRUMP" crap and find people in America to make them.

As far as I'm concerned Trump is bent over with his ass cheeks wide opened taking it from the Chinese.

17. So you agree with a man who speaks out of both ends of his ass
A man who bashes china then uses them to make all his Trump business shirts and Melania Trump QVC Jewelry.

When it comes to China - HE is the problem, not the solution. He is a follower, not a leader.

Like all the other stuff with the Trump Label on it that he or his wife sells.

24. I agree with his plan to put a tariff on Chinese imports - that's it.
I don't care for the man's ways or his politics. China is in a position now created by us, and they have put up several barriers against free trade to which we have not responded. We have bled millions of jobs over to the Chinese. Those who support the continuation of that are guilty of treason in my book.

25. China has the jobs we once had. That IS the problem. It is
not solely their fault, but companies that used to produce in the US are taking advantage of cheap "slave" labor, plus the Chinese themselves have very much protected their markets, as we have failed to do. There is NO free trade going on here.

15. Jeez, what an idiot.
Great, now Americans will have to pay more for their shitty plastic Wal-Mart products. And I'm sure Americans will love a perpetual war in exchange for oil, which will probably cost us more money and lives to sustain. And charge South Korea? I think we all have something to lose with an out of control North Korea, not just South Korea. He's a joke.

"We will reface every official government building in DC with brass & mirrors! It will be huge! Amazing! Luxury! And only NEW government buildings will have to have 'Trump' in the name - a big brass plaque - on the front!"
