DR Congo: 48 rapes every hour, US study finds

A study by US scientists has concluded that an average of 48 women and girls are raped every hour in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The study, in the American Journal of Public Health, found that 400,000 females aged 15-49 were raped over a 12-month period in 2006 and 2007.

That rate is significantly higher than the previous estimate of 16,000 rapes reported in one year by the UN.

wouldn't be exaggerating if i say: the atmosphere is an updated (perhaps a bit toned down) version of Conrad's "Heart of Darkness"; the new Belgians being every damn multi-national in the world looking to make a killing off their mineral resources - from the Americas to Europe to Asia through Australia. the lady who waited tables @ the cafe, had an old machete scar, stretching from one ear to the other, across the front of her throat. keep wondering how she survived.
