Two Men Arrested in New York Terror Case
Source: The New York Times

Two men who the authorities said intended to carry out a terrorist attack in New York City were arrested late Wednesday, two law enforcement officials said.

Details were not immediately available, and the identities of the men were not released. A law enforcement source characterized the suspects as “homegrown,” and another said they were of North African descent.

The case was being prosecuted by the Manhattan district attorney’s office, and law enforcement officials said the men were expected to be charged under New York State’s terrorism law.

Major terrorism cases are generally investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and prosecuted by the United States attorney’s office in federal court. But in this case, a law enforcement official said, one official had told the F.B.I. it was not a terrorism case.

Be sure to read the rest of the article on the link above - because it is a bit confusing.
The article states that it is a terror case and that it is not a terrorism case - go figure!

5. NYPD arrests two Queens terror suspects, charged with plot to hit NYC synagogues with grenandes
Source: NY Daily News

Two Queens men busted on terror and hate-crime charges were plotting to attack major Manhattan synagogues with grenades and assault rifles to "kill Jews," officials said Thursday.

Cops say the ringleader, Ahmed Ferhani, 27, of East Elmhurst, is Algerian-born and came to New York with his family. He has prior arrests for drug and weapon possession, sources said.

Ferhani enlisted a pal, Mohamed Mamdough, 20, who is Moroccan, in a plan sneak into "the biggest synogogue in Manhattan" dressed as Orthodox Jews and plant a bomb while pretending to pray.

"While Osama Bin Laden may be dead, terrorism in the world is not," Mayor Bloomberg said at a news conference Thursday.

11. Why are these not called Hate Crime suspects? What if they were white New Yorkers?
Where is the line between terrorist and hate crime? Is it the same for all people?

12. The obvious punishment?
Make them watch a Woody Allen marathon.

In all seriousness, thankfully they were discovered. I'm not the religious type, but this is obviously not something I would wish upon anyone.
