Anti-nuke plan goes to full city council with rare 'do not pass' recommendation

KANSAS CITY, Missouri - An anti-nuclear group wants a public vote to try to stop the work at a new plant being built in south Kansas City.

But the KCMO city council must decide whether to put it on the ballot or fight it.

People both for and against the plan packed city council chambers.

3. We keep repairing and updating the existing ones.
Stockpile numbers have actually been *reduced* over the years, but the exiting stockpile has parts that need to be maintained/repaired.

We have 5,113 working warheads right now, (down from a peak of 31,225 in 1967) and the Kansas City plant is responsible for some 85% of their non-nuclear components. New start plan is to take that number down to 1,550.
