Mavericks Top Heat for 1st NBA Title In Franchise History
Source: Huffingtonpost

MIAMI -- Dirk Nowitzki and the Dallas Mavericks are NBA champions, and they went through LeBron James for that long-awaited first title.

Jason Terry scored 27 points, Nowitzki added 21 and the Mavericks topped the Miami Heat 105-95 in Game 6 of the NBA finals on Sunday night. The Mavericks won four of the series' last five games, a turnabout that could not have been sweeter after seeing the Heat celebrate their first title in Dallas after Game 6 of the 2006 finals.

James scored 21 for Miami, though was largely quiet after the opening minutes. Chris Bosh had 19, Mario Chalmers 18 and Dwyane Wade 17 for the Heat.

When it was over, Mavs owner Mark Cuban ran onto the court to hug coach Rick Carlisle.

And James' wait for his first NBA title will extend into at least his ninth season.

1. Thank you.
But watch out, they may move this to Sports forum. Can't recognize a Texas team on GD or LBN.

16. It's amazing how little people even in Miami think of him.
I don't know his Q rating but it must suck.

the hotshots cost so much money that the team couln't fill out their roster with stronger supporting players, because they were too close to the salary cap.

I don't know if that is the case, since I don't know how these things work, but it sounded plausible to me.

It seems that if you don't have depth, the main players have to play too long and hard, and that might wear them down. Hre at KU, the Jayhawks' success is often credited as much to their deep bench as to their starters.

Also, if the supporting players are not strong on one team but are strong on the other, then it seems to me that turnovers by the team with weaker minor players become more likely.

Again, I might well be wrong, since I know nothing about basketball and have never been to a game or even watched more than a minute at a time of a game on TV.

I will admit, though, that I was rooting for the Mavericks, just because all the narcissistic hype about LeBron James, and also because that stupid TV show he set up when it was time to make his choice offended my sensibilities. I hear that a lot of fans find the hype and the prima donna stuff offensive, too.

11. This was a great finals. Great games. Rick Carlisle is a great coach. I really can't understand
the rabid hatred for LeBron. He is a great player who only wants to win a trophy.
