Wasn't bullied, Rocky insists

Mayor Rocky Anderson says the new lawsuit against his Main Street Plaza plan will have no effect on the upcoming mayoral election -- even though the complaint filed by his traditional supporters harps on his "about face" and says he was bulldozed by the LDS Church.

On Thursday, the day he and Salt Lake City were sued by the ACLU for eliminating the easement on the plaza, Anderson called the lawsuit "weird" and "almost malicious when it comes to the personal characterizations."

But it means nothing politically, he insisted, even though the suit comes two months before the mayoral primary and may ensure the plaza remains on voters' minds.

"I feel I've got great support from civil libertarians," he said.

Indeed, Dani Eyer, executive director of the Utah chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union, said she personally supports Anderson for mayor. Craig Axford, one of the plaintiffs, is still listed as an endorser on Anderson's campaign Web site.

1. I wish it could've been different.

I don't like the idea of the closing of that street to begin with. But that's not Anderson's fault. I just hope he wins again.
