UNITED NATIONS (AP) - The United States plans to introduce on Monday its long-awaited U.N. resolution on issues raised by the restoration of Iraqi sovereignty on June 30, an American official said.
The U.N. Security Council was expected to discuss the draft resolution behind closed doors on Monday morning, the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

The meeting will come just hours before President Bush is expected to lay out his vision for the new Iraqi government in a nationally televised speech.

The 15 council ambassadors have held three informal sessions on key elements expected to be in the U.N. resolution - the handover of power from the U.S. and British occupation authorities to an interim Iraqi government, the role of the multinational force currently led by the United States, and the role of the United Nations.

The resolution is also expected to address the question of Iraq's oil revenue and a host of other legal issues.

4. If the U.N. agrees to that exemption after what we've seen recently
I will lose all hope.

6. Of course they'll agree to it.
It's not like they have a choice. They either agree to it or lose all US money, peacekeepers, support for EVERYTHING. It essentially comes down to this: Either they agree, or Bush destroys the UN as a viable international body.

7. I know Bushco will try to bribe/bully it through.
But - they must be feeling a bit desperate now - I guess it will
come down to who needs what the most. Although I'm not optimistic.

But if the U.S. can't be reined in as regards their treatment of
Iraqis, it will make any future peacekeeping enterprise impossible,
because all western countries are likely to be tarred with the same
brush in Arab minds. It must be breeding such hate against us all.
