Ads apparently help Kerry catch up to Bush in 17 states
<The $25 million in TV ads he's run the past three weeks seems to have helped pull Sen. John Kerry even with President Bush in states likely to decide who wins the White House in November.

In mid-February, at the height of his success in Democratic primaries, Kerry held a 15-percentage point lead over Bush in the 17 states. But by late March, Bush was ahead by 10 points. Political scientists and communication experts said at the time that the Bush campaign's mostly negative TV advertising, along with Kerry's relatively small ad presence, was hurting Kerry in the polls.

But the Kerry campaign attributes his gains in the key states to voters getting to know him - in part through the ads, which offer looks at his military and government records as well as his family.

"The American people are just beginning to get to know John Kerry and learning about his plan to make the country strong again," Kerry spokesman Phil Singer said.

This week, the Bush campaign is expected to release a TV ad accusing Kerry of "playing politics with national security." The Kerry campaign has not yet said what ads will follow the two biographical spots. But it has said it plans other ads that introduce the senator and his ideas to voters. >

1. Truely Sad
With all that has been going on, it's beyond sad, and near incomprehensible, that it takes TV ads to change minds on these two candidates.

3. this is why Kerry is considering delaying acceptance of nomination
because the free time republicans will have to raise and spend money to attack him DO WORK. he will be limited in what he can do. and it will be worse than now because right now most don't pay attention but they will then.

17. Delaying the Convention will Hurt Kerry, But Not as Much as...
...another $100 million in Bush*'s bank account and no way to answer it would.

18. Kerry's not thinking about delaying the Convention, just the acceptance.

24. That will allow him to continue to spend campaign funds
without the limits that are imposed after he 'officially' becomes the Democratic candidate. This is a great move, but it needs to be explained more to his supporters, IMO!

26. If We Delay the Acceptance but not the Convention We Could Be
screwed off of the ballot in every state, because the Republicans own
the courts.

Kerry obviously needs the money, so he hasn't any choice.
They should move the whole damn convention. That will cost a lot
of money, but Kerry can probably raise more than it will cost,
and if he tries to delay acceptance of the nomination the Repub
courts will screw us.

2. Yessss, it's good to see JK introducing & defining
himself instead of letting Srub&co dump all over him, NO comparison as to substance 'tween * & Kerry, thanks for posting :headbang:

4. I really like Kerry's ads.
He is defining himself and letting his biography speak for itself. It delivers a positive message of America. Contrast that with the weasel-king who can't run on his record, so reverts back to the RNC tried and true 'smear and slime' tactics that they've refined into an artform over the years.

I think Kerry should continue to offer his positive ads up as an antidote to the poison that this administration keeps infecting our country with.

20. Seriously, his ads are touching, very touching.
And,...although human weakness has been pulled into the negative fascist attack stuff over the last couple of decades,...people are so burned out on that crap. They, the people, have hit bottom and they FEEL it,...and hate it!!!

Kerry and his crew must have a very good finger on the pulse of America. Moreover, Kerry is showing incredible wisdom in standing back and allowing the rats eat themselves alive.

5. it's the TYPE of ad
Kerry is running some really nice biographical spots here in NM, which provide a nice contrast to the barrage of nasty negativity we see in all the Bush spots. People are noticing the difference, too, and Kerry's numbers are getting better all the time.

7. yes, but the article posted only refers to the battleground states
i believe the cbs poll is the entire nation. this poll specifically refers to the swing states that can go either way and will help decide the election.

21. What a great ad!
What paper was it in?

I personally like his biography TV ads where his old Viet Nam partners talk about how he saved their lives. That is really powerful and I don't think he spends enough time with it.

9. Great to see Kerry relaxed and joking with supporters..
and the disassembling going in Bush's cabinet doesn't hurt either..

I'm confident Kerry can feel the difference in the publics response to his much warmer charming self. After all, Bush is scaring the public with his radical war plans. The daily reports of soldier deaths are serving as fuel to justified anger from the public and military families.. The people are there for Kerry's taking. All he needs to do is stay relaxed and provide them with a plan for safe place to fall in these turbulent times.

13. Why do attack ads agsint Dems work, but not vice-versa?
It seems like when we try to fight back that we get branded as being dirty, but when Rove attacks Bush soars in the polls. I just don't get it.

15. When Bush personally flings an open attack. He looks ugly...
The Rethugs use the round robin approach.
The rethugs take turns flinging slime.

The same would be true for Dems if they ever got organized.
The first thing I would do is fire Terry McAuliffe ..
He is as useless as a parachute in a submarine.
He might as well be a Rethug for all the good he's done.

16. I don't see your trend at all.
Attack ads usually work whomever uses them.

Rove's cleverness is that he always attacks on the issues where his
candidate is weakest.

19. Just curious, but why do you think the polls are legitimate?...
Could it have anything to do with Rove applying pressure to that portion of the media still allied with the NeoCons?

25. Because They Own the News, That's Why
If the Repubs go negative, the "news" organizations run with it,
and report the accusations as "news".

If Dems go negative, they criticize them strongly for doing so,
and go with rebuttals to the Dem ads as "news".
