Two arrested trying to save beached whale in Oregon

SEASIDE, Oregon (CNN) -- Two people were arrested after a whale washed ashore of a northern Oregon coastal community and bystanders on the beach rushed into the water in a failed attempt to save it.

Laboratory tests will be conducted Monday on the Baird's beaked whale, which died Sunday evening.

Up to 60 people, most of whom were attending a volleyball tournament, rushed into the ocean when the whale beached Sunday evening in Seaside and began trying to get the creature back into the water, according to Jason Hussa of the Marine Mammal Stranding Network.

As far as I'm concerned we don't need cops to save us from ourselves.
If that guy wanted to try and help and he gets hurt doing it that is his business.

If those cops have this much time to waste they need to be laid off so we can save our tax dollars for more important things.

3. What gets me

is the fact that the cop said he was doing it so they wouldn't hurt themselves.

I'm sorry, but isn't this a free country? If the guy wants to endanger his life for an animal, isn't that his right as a citizen of this country?

Why are the police so worried about me hurting myself? I'm a full grown adult, I can take care of myself.

6. Totally biased story

Totally biased story - there was not one quote or interview with any witness - just the 'official' story. This may not be the most earth-shattering story of the day but it is just another example of the sorry state of journalism in this country today.

7. Remember when that plane in DC crashed into the 14th st bridge and...

...there were all these live passengers in the water and trapped under the ice, and all the firefighters and cops were standing on the shore looking at them and bystanders started diving in to save them cuz the pro's weren't going in there.

I think those heroes got in trouble, too.
