Arnold's strongest opposition is coming from the right
"As governor, Mr. Schwarzenegger would be a darker villain than any he has faced in his movies," said the Rev. Lou Sheldon of the Traditional Values Coalition, who has formed a group called Californians for Moral Government to stop the actor's march on Sacramento.

As Democrats stumble in disarray, urging Californians to vote against recalling unpopular Gov. Gray Davis, Schwarzenegger's strongest opposition so far is coming from the right.

With more than 190 candidates qualifying for a ballot spot in the increasingly bizarre race, conservatives are furious that the Republican Party's best hope of capturing the plum California governorship supports abortion and gay adoption, is critical of former President Bill Clinton's impeachment and has posed with naked women.

Sheldon's group is planning an attack on several fronts, from confronting the Catholic actor with the Vatican's pronouncement that endorsing gay adoption is a mortal sin to petitioning the FCC that TV stations should be forced to stop wall-to-wall Schwarzenegger coverage in fairness to other candidates.

"We are going to do a gigantic voter turnout through our 8,700 churches in California. Schwarzenegger is going to be put under the magnifying glass," he vowed. "The gathering storm is coming."

1. I think this is VERY GOOD...
let the right wing attack Swarztie and weaken him. This way we do not have to get our Democratic Hands dirty!!!
In the mean time we must GOTV by any means and Davis must run his Attack Campaigns!!!

2. He'll steal votes from the left and middle
because he is seen as being moderate. Not having the support of the wacky right won't mean much, if anything. He'll more than make up for it from the center. What we need is to rally behind Bustamante.

3. Of course we should Rally Behind Cruz...
We also need to get the minority and liberals out to vote. I wonder if we can get some Greens over too!!!

13. Some Greens are hopeless
They won't vote for a centrist like Cruz. Personally, I'd rather see our democracy remain somewhat whole, not in tatters like it will be if Ah-nuld is "elected".

18. Dont BUY This - Karl Rove strategy at work***
Same thing they did with Bush. Try and paint him like a Democrat - you know like on Leno he spoke about Special Interests, etc....

Same thing Bush did - hes stealing from the Democratic platform and then will proceed to be George and Dicks California puppet.

20. I agree: Arnold is a Bush guy
DO NOT BELIEVE THE LIES. Arnold's ties to the Bushes are deep. He campaigned for both of the Bushes, and he has given a lot of money to them and the Republican party. If elected, he will just be another figurehead like Reagan.

4. Good. I hope they split their vote
The trouble is that our side is not entirely united. A lot of Democrats support Arianna. I think we should have a straw poll of the left side before the election and encourage everyone to unite behind the winner.

6. CNN has not mentioned how Arnold's "Planet Hollywood" bankrupcy
qualifies him for runninf a Cal in deficit.

But then none of the other channels have mention that or his losses on his income tax returns from his great investment in Global Crossing.

17. Lawrence O'Donnell, God love him, mentioned the bankruptcy
On "The McLaughlin Group" this past weekend, to be precise.

Count on O'Donnell to be the Stinktier at the Schwarzenegger garden party.

16. Cruz, Arianna and Peter need to meet.
Peter Camejo has previously indicated that he may not run if Bustamante did. I think we Democrats need to help convince non-Democratic progressives that a Bustamante governorship will advance our causes--their causes. As Arianna has pointed out, Arnie represents the "Bush Republicans" and Enron pirates. We cannot allow him to win.

21. I was off a little, but:
I found this:

"Green Party candidate Peter Camejo said Monday he might consider dropping out of the race if Davis resigns and Bustamante replaces him before the election is certified by Shelley. He told another newspaper he'd also bow out if political pundit Arianna Huffington enters the race."

http://www.rescuecalifornia.com/latest.news/173/?page=2

More than anything, we need to forge a kind of progressive united front if at all possible. Perhaps we could get an agreement on universal health care as a Bustamante campaign issue. We have the votes for Sen. John Burton's proposal. I'm saying that the right-wing danger must and can be defeated through united action. I, as a Democrat, certainly want to do my part to encourage left-center unity.

22. If the race only included Ahnuld and Gary Coleman,
this race would be a politcal circus. This has turned into a full out freak show.

I hope the excitement and over the top buzz of it all dies down soon, and maybe then some real politics can begin.
