AOL Time Warner Name Change
Time Warner executives have finally awakened to the image problem in being associated with loser AOL. This was supposed to have been the blockbuster deal of the century - nothing but upside! Instead, AOL sank, and continued to sink. Now it's a total drag on the brand name.

NEW YORK (Reuters) - AOL Time Warner Inc. is considering dropping "AOL" from its name, sources familiar with the matter said on Monday, against the backdrop of federal probes and declining finances at the media company's America Online unit.

The name issue could be a subject of discussion at the company's board meeting next month, one source said, but added, "It's premature to say at this point."

1. HA HA!
Couldn't happen to a "nicer" company!
BTW, for those of you who remember my AOL rant of a week ago, they never did charge me for that last month after I canceled and they said I hadn't. Guess they got scared about my threat to go to the attorney general. But too bad, I'm still going to do it.
They made me mad.:bounce:

3. AOL Is Full of Nasty Conservatives
I did AOL's 3-month free trial during the last year of the Clinton administration. What an unpleasant experience. All of the political chat rooms were dominated by nasty conservatives, there was no way to get away from them.

AOL has special staff who are good at talking you out of cancelling. They have an answer to every objection. I told them that I didn't like being bombarded with pornography, and that shut them up. I don't actually mind sex images, but not the sleazy stuff that was showing up in my mailbox every day.

4. When you drill down into it...
AOL really committed massive fraud in this deal. They bought into Time Warner with monies secured with value they never really had. Using our old friend, pro forma accounting, they were able to inflate their value and secure financing at will.

With a little luck and the grace of an angry god, Steve Case and some of the others will be singing "Jailhouse Rock".

Hmm...tinfoil hat time...I wonder how the "suicide" of that AOL executive figures into al this?

Quite frankly, I put nothing past Corporate America these days. The stakes they are playing for are just too high, and the average senior corporate executive, and the culture he marinates himself in, is just too sociopathic.

5. 'AOL' A Liability? Who'd A THUNK It?
Shows how out of touch TimeWarner is. Anybody who tried to USE the damn service could've told 'em three years ago what a dog AOL is and how they were hitching their wagon to a LOSER.
