Winsted may test ballot delivery (CT)
WINSTED -- The State of Connecticut is developing a new way to distribute absentee ballots during election time and the town of Winsted is considering taking part in the pilot program, which the state hopes to put into affect by the November elections.

The pilot program will put the absentee ballots in the hands of two people, a Republican and a Democrat, and they will have complete control of handing them out to the registered voters who request the service. As of now the state is looking into three towns, a small, medium, and large town, to participate in the program. Bridgeport will represent the large town and the other two selections are still being considered.

"The state is finding with applicants there are problems all around the state," Town Clerk Sheila Sedlack said. "Officials find the ballots being used as a campaigning tool."

Appointing two people to hand out the ballots will enable the town to keep a record of people who are frequently asking for the ballots and will allow the town to better service those people in the years to come.
