Big 3 Networks to Mark 9/11 with Harder Stance
By Andrew Grossman

NEW YORK (Hollywood Reporter) - One month before the second anniversary of the Sept. 11 tragedy, the broadcast networks seem set to change the tone of their coverage of that event from focusing on the event itself and the memorials to looking more at policy issues in the aftermath of the attacks.

The exact extent of the coverage is still uncertain as the networks await to hear from New York, Washington and Shanksville, Pa., on their plans for the day, but it is highly unlikely that ABC, CBS and NBC News will repeat their 2002 menu of broad live coverage on Sept. 11.

"In the first year after that unspeakable tragedy, there was a need for the nation to come together," ABC News vp Jeffrey Schneider said. "For the second-year anniversary, we've obviously taking a very serious look at a host of security issues facing the country, and we're doing that for five days."

snip...

ABC is brandishing its plans to spend five days that week on a series of reports across most of its news vehicles -- on television, radio and the Internet -- that will examine, in effect, if the war on terrorism is working. All of ABC News' shows will ask aggressive questions about al-Qaida, Osama bin Laden and whether the $20 billion spent on security was worth it.

snip....

I think I'll believe it when I see it.

1. But, but, but....
We need the media to remind us that God chose George W. Bush as president to lead the fight against evil and the Christian crusade against ther evil, wicked religion of Islam.

3. let's see how far they go
we'll know in 2 seconds if they're being fair and balanced.

The good news is that the media whores know that they are propaganda puppets for the shrub thugs. The bad news is that they're still acting like media whores who like being slapped around and told what to do.

4. might help to bring up the repube convention bs
and their blatant, and constant, politicizing of 9/11

7. I dunno
Sounds like they have no intention to investigate Buschco and their justification for war or even whether or not Bush knew about 9/11 on 8/6. It sounds like it'll be "are we doing enough to protect ourselves from another attack?" Powderpuff for the caba.

8. Agreed
It almost sounds as though they think they've found a great "hard-hitting" way of covering 9/11 that will keep them from covering the newer fiascos.

12. Absolutely. August 6, 2001 is the day the media should focus on.
And Turd Blossom Rove's powerpoint presentation of how republicans could use 9/11 to their political benefit. And the 2002 Georgia Senate campaign.

10. we're fortunate that it is down to an annual observation..
if you'll recall, the 11th of every month was marked with a reminder that just weeks/months ago, the attacks occurred.

14. December 7 at Pearl Harbor is commemorated every year.
There is a service at the Arizona Memorial and flowers are placed into the water. This is a sacred site...and, I'm sure there will be similar commemorations at the WTC Memorial held on each solemn anniversary.

And, certainly, these commemorative rituals will continue well beyond our lifetime.

13. "A need for the nation to come together"
Yeah, right. In practice, that meant a need to elevate that s.o.b. Dubya to the rank of divinity.

The network's proper function, which we know they abdicated, would have been to start investigating the attacks immediately and aggressively, including who was responsible, who was not responsible, who fell down on the job, etc.

Spineless twits. It's outrageous that the guy's trying to depict the networks' spineless behavior then as proper and doing their duty.

15. High time.
It's not like there's a dearth of information on it if they are so inclined to share it with the general public.

17. that's the one thing that may be semi-hopeful
If, as the report indicates, ABC really is working hard to get ready for an all-out blitz, that would imply they're doing RESEARCH. And, if they are doing RESEARCH, it would seem as though they'd almost HAVE TO FIND some of the tons of information now out there, from such informed and credible sources as the congressional report.

I have been around long enough to know that the press always goes into an August slumber. So I keep trying to believe that some reporters are now using this time to actually do some investigations.

Then I remember we're dealing with the whore media and * and it's hard to sustain that.

16. How about asking hard questions about 911?
"the media probably wasn't as tough as they normally are."

They've got to be shitting me.

18. 'The media' are people too...
Somewhere down there below all that makeup.

Seriously, the reporters were directly affected by 9/11--they watched the towers fall, walked through the ruins, probably had acquaintances among the dead.

The elites didn't like 9/11 one bit. Don't assume they will always support the people who failed to stop it and haven't done much to stop a repeat.
