BAGHDAD, Iraq - A roadside bomb rocked a military convoy in southeast Baghdad on Tuesday and killed three U.S. troops, an Iraqi national guardsman said, in the first major attack on American forces since they transferred sovereignty in Iraq (news - web sites) to an interim government.

<snip>

Footage from Associated Press Television News showed blood inside a slightly damaged Humvee and a flak vest laying in the road in the residential neighborhood.

Iraqi Sgt. Ali Muhsin said at least one American was wounded in the roadside bomb explosion, along with the three service members killed.

Army Maj. Phil Smith of the 1st Cavalry Division said he believed the incident involved U.S. Marines. A U.S. soldier at the scene said the bomb hit the lead vehicle in the convoy and wounded or killed several American soldiers.

21. "BRING EM ON" shouted the AWOL CHIMPANZEE
And although the Iraqis have "legal custody"

The Chimp has " physical custody" of Saddam.

Sounds like a "custody" battle

4. Not only is this not going to stop...
but I really do expect the pace to pick up now.

We handed over nothing yesterday. Same occupation forces. Same repressions. We're just calling it something different. And the plight of the occupied gets worse daily.

They don't hate us for our freedoms. They hate us for taking their freedoms!

5. I guess that since the "handover"
the media can begin to count at #1 again - deaths since the handover - so that the number can grow smaller instead of larger.

Or do we just get phase 4?

Phase 1 - Initial Invasion (March 20 - April 9)
Phase 2 - Fall of Baghdad until "Mission Accomplished" (April 10 - May 1, 2003)
Phase 3 - Mission Accomplished until "handover" (May 2, 2003 - June 28, 2004)
Phase 4 - After "handover" (June 29 - the end of time)

10. Phase four
I wouldn't put it past these bastards to use that, I on the other hand only use the numbers I'm being fed. That number tells me that there have been 858 Americans killed thousands wounded, billions of dollars wasted in pursuit of g w mcchimps ego.

18. They must have opened the freezer
while everyone was watching the hand they wanted us to keep an eye on. I admit to wearing tinfoil here, but, I believe there are many dead that they won't admit to, waiting for something to grab our attention to bring out the dead.
It's going to be easier for them to do this now, unless we hold the media's feet to the fire on this issue, Iraq will slide down the hole to obscurity.

14. Don't you know what happened yesterday?
It's IRAQ'S problem now! It doesn't reflect on the Bush regime anymore. If they're going to use their soveringty as savagery, that's THEIR misfortune--and it proves how sub-human and ungodly they are!

26. Well. I'm certainly glad our involvement in Iraq is over, having handed
over the reins of government, and our boys can come right on home.

We can get right back to the business of business, buying new Humvees and all other kind of shopping, and voting for Fearless Leader.

What's that you say?

28. Business as usual in Iraq as more US Marines die
AP , BAGHDAD

A roadside bomb killed three US Marines and wounded two others yesterday in the first fatal attack on US forces since the US trans-ferred sovereignty to an interim Iraqi government, US officials said.

In one of his first acts since taking power, interim Prime Minister Iyad Allawi said former president Saddam Hussein would be transferred to Iraqi legal custody and face charges before an Iraqi court this week -- but will remain in a US-run jail for the moment because his government did not have a suitable prison.

The attack on the Marines occurred at 10am in eastern Baghdad, the US command said in a statement.
