NAACP plans major voter registration push (Showing F9-11 at convention)
http://www.philly.com/mld/philly/9137274.htm

Driving home his organization's message of the critical importance of this year's presidential election, NAACP president and CEO Kweisi Mfume said today the group was pushing to register an unprecedented number of new voters.

"If people think that the turnout of new voters was high in the year 2000, they haven't seen anything yet," Mfume told a gathering about 7,000 cheering members at during a plenary session at the Convention Center.

<snip>

Mfume also took critical aim at Democrats. "Accountability requires that we reject pandering of both parties," Mfume said. "Every Republican is not our enemy and every Democrat is not our friend.

"We still have a society where some in the Democratic Party take our votes for granted, and many in the Republican Party refuse to campaign for them."

Despite the tough words against the Democrats, the NAACP announced today that today it would show the movie Fahrenheit 9/11 to its members in the Convention Center's grand ballroom. The documentary film, by Michael Moore, is highly critical of the Bush administration. The Democrats' presumptive nominee, Sen. John Kerry, is scheduled to address the group Thursday. The group also announced that Rev. Jesse Jackson, a former Democratic presidential candidate, will address the convention Wednesday.

2. The footage of Florida in 2000 made my blood BOIL,

3. I was ashamed as well at the mostly white Democratic Senators
Not one of whom who sign on with the Congressional Black Caucus members. Yeah, it wouldn't have made a difference - but someone should've had the "balls" to say what happened in Florida was Wrong, Wrong, Wrong a thousand times Wrong!

5. That WAS shocking!
I hadn't realized that no senators had signed their complaints, and for Al Gore to have to preside over the whole episode on the chamber floor was really just beyond description.

13. How did I miss that event entirely???
It must have been kept out of site by the "liberal" media. just like the eggs thrown at the limo on inauguration day.

7. I Don't Understand It
I mean, why in F-9/11 Moore showed all those black Congress people getting up and objecting but no Senator. Now, to be fair, there could have White Congress people standing up to protest, but Moore just didn't show it.

Still, why no senators? I'm not so quick to jump on the race card. I thought maybe it is because while Congress people represent a district and are more in touch with their constituents than Senators who represent a state and many of the residents don't care. Still, you'd think some lame duck Democratic Senator would have protested.

15. They were following Gore's explicit instructions.
Why he wanted them not to sign it is anyone's guess. I've read something that he didn't want to interefere anymore with the process. Moore was less than upfront about that issue.

Blame Gore. Just as much as you can blame Gore for losing to these criminals.

There are gold mines out there to be mined! This is too important to take anything for granted!

8. Well
I know BUsh's record on civil rights is poor, but I can understand why he wouldn't want to speak at their convention if they are planning on showing Moore's movie.

11. After what * is doing to them, they should be motivated. He has set
them back 10 years! Affirmative action is necessary. **** had it himself because of his money. He would NEVER have been accepted at the schools he attended if his daddy and granddaddy had not attended them. He had affirmative action but he won't let minorities who really need it have it. He is a rePIG.
