Greenpeace fined for abuse of French nuclear logo
PARIS, July 22 (AFP) - The French and New Zealand associations of the ecology group Greenpeace have been fined for abusing the logo of the French nuclear group Areva on their websites, according to a court ruling announced Thursday.

The two associations were ordered to pay Areva EUR 13,500 (USD 16,200) in damages and interest for "denigration" of the logo, which in 2002 had been pasted on the Greenpeace websites with a skull next to it.

The ruling by the Paris first circuit court, dated July 9, rejected Areva's claim that Greenpeace had "counterfeited" its logo.

The Areva group comprises five state-owned nuclear firms - Cogema, CEA Industrie, FCI, Framatome ANP and Technicatome.

Greenpeace is a fierce campaigner against the French nuclear industry, which accounts for more than two-thirds of the country's electricity supply.

1. A real reason to hate France...

Well, maybe "hate" is too strong a word.

I've held the French government in contempt for a long time, especially after one of its warships sunk the Greenpeace vessel Rainbow Warrior. I had to do a little reevaluation when wingnuts started hating them too. But, this ongoing battle they have with the organization gets under my skin.

2. I don't think a warship did that.....
I think it was a private yacht used by their intelligence agency... to get 2 frogmen close enough to plant a bomb on the hull of the boat while it was in a harbor in New Zealand...

Heyo

3. You're right...

My memory is exaggerating the incident.

It still ticks me off.

4. French Intelligence planted explosives on the Rainbow Warrior...
killing a photographer.

The "agents" (or as I prefer to call them - murderers) who planted the bombs were given a hero's welcome when they returned to France.

Not only did they kill someone, but the French did a deal where they would imprison the two captured agents on a Pacific atoll, to serve the sentences handed out by NZ courts.

But the French kept them there only a short time before returning them to France - against the agreement, and the woman murderer was pregnant!

Greenpeace should tell the French government to go fuck itself, and I hope the NZ government supports them in that effort.

At least America still pretends. :)
