Treatment of Kelly in spotlight
The latest from the Hutton enquiry.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/3165787.stm

The Ministry of Defence's top civil servant is facing questions at the Hutton Inquiry about the way Dr David Kelly was treated in the weeks before his death. The inquiry into the death of weapons expert Dr Kelly is hearing from the ministry's permanent secretary Sir Kevin Tebbit.

He is being questioned on the strategy which led to Dr Kelly being publicly named as the BBC's possible source, as well as on the way the scientist was made to answer MPs' questions.

Later, the prime minister's two official spokesmen, Godric Smith and Tom Kelly, are due to take the stand at the Royal Courts of Justice.

Opening his evidence, Sir Kevin said he had taken no direct role in producing the Iraq dossier.

1. A propos treatment: Why did he have 4 ekg pads on his chest when...
Edited on Wed Aug-20-03 06:52 AM by gandalf
he was found?

Was that explained now?
Was he so considerate about his health that he put them on that morning, even if he had the intention to commit suicide?

Or was his decision to commit suicide that spontaneous?

Or was it for empirical research purposes, conducted by a university, to measure how quick death would come?

5. Campbell 'suggested source leak'
Hmmm, I don't remember Campbell saying THAT in his evidence yesterday. It looks to me like all the witnesses, particularly the Blair lackeys are just blaming each other. :eyes: Make of all this what you will.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/3167333.stm

Downing Street press chief Alastair Campbell floated the idea of leaking to a newspaper the fact an official had admitted contact with the BBC, the Hutton inquiry has heard.

Number 10 official spokesman Godric Smith said Mr Campbell made the suggestion on 7 July because he was worried the prime minister was due to be questioned by senior MPs the next day.

It came at the height of the government's row with the BBC over claims that Number 10 had "sexed up" the key intelligence dossier about Iraq weapons.
