DANVILLE, Va. - Two months after laying off 312 workers, textile manufacturer Dan River Inc. announced Wednesday it will cut 375 more starting in October as it closes two plants.

Dan River Director of Human Resources Calvin Barnhardt blamed the layoffs on the continued pressure from foreign textile markets and efforts by clothing companies to reduce their inventories.

1. i used to work there in the early '90's. ugly town.
the word from old friends is as it ever was: top managers walked out with golden parachutes, mill workers got screwed.

the company is now buying most of its fabric from pakistan and china, so it no longer needs to make/dye/finish the fabrics here in the US.

top guy joe lanier used to run west pt-stevens, they went under right after he left to go to dan river, now a few years later he ran dan river into the ground.
