Bush's job-approval rating climbs back above 50%
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=676&ncid=676&e=2&u=/usatoday/20040813/ts_usatoday/bushsjobapprovalratingclimbsbackabove50

President Bush (news - web sites)'s job-approval rating, a key indicator of an incumbent's chance of being re-elected, has turned upward, the Gallup Poll finds.

The share of Americans who say they approve of the job Bush is doing inched over the 50% mark to 51%. No president who was at or above 50% at this point in an election year has lost.

Matthew Dowd, Bush's campaign strategist, said, "It looks like the American public is not near as pessimistic as Sen. Kerry is."

Bush's job-approval rating hit its low point, 46%, in May.

The poll finds the presidential race essentially tied: Bush leads Kerry 48%-46% among likely voters; independent Ralph Nader has 3%. The difference between Bush and Kerry is within the poll's error margin of +/{ndash}4 percentage points.

-------------------------------------------------------

This story is currently on the front page of Yahoo, and it conveniently uses the only poll that shows Bush ahead. :eyes:

1. Good, just because they say so, doesn't mean it is true.
It gives a good reason to mobilize the democratic base though.

24. too late, it's over
pack up, go home, accept it, the media already decided the winner and will work to make it come true. However, some will not go quietly in the night, but will fight all the way down, let's just hope Kerry starts fighting soon.

36. Gallup Polls Suspect
The Gallup poll was showing the only + result for
Bush until recently, and I suspect they were counting the Machine Vote and not the People vote....BBV

47. Gallup was also the only poll which showed Kerry
actually losing ground after the convention. Ridiculous.

43. I agree it is good
most of the polls the past 4 years have been dead wrong. More than likely this means his approval is actually lower.

6. I wrote USA Today about this article this morning
They have become Faux News Jr. since they got a new editor. They and CNN use Gallup (which someone on DU pointed out earlier has doubtful methods)to further their right wing agenda. Sends my blood pressure through the roof. I am just glad other polls do not use their methodology...

12. Gallup has been a joke for years ...
So just laugh it off. Their GOP bias is self-evident in their methods and their timing. CNN and USA Today should be embarrassed to associate with these clowns. Gallup and Fox were made for each other.
I'd pay more attention to the Pew poll that shows a healthy majority of the country is unhappy with Shrub's handling of the economy.

I mean the jobs report for the month was horrible, gas prices are once again rising beyond record levels, we are approaching 1000 dead Americans in Iraq, the overall economic picture is getting bleaker and his approval goes UP? :silly:

32. They manipulated the numbers to get the desired results.
If it's true that statistics show that no president has ever lost in the past who is 50% or more, then Rove would have made sure that there was a poll putting Bush making the necessary number.

33. Americas ignorance...
The fact that any American would cast a vote for this dip shit is sooooo beyond comprehension it makes my teeth hurt. WTF? How can a reasonable person look around at what going on and not reach the conclusion that there has to be something better...anything. When someone totally fucks up everything they touch you FIRE THEM and give the job to someone else.

Is there something in the water we don't know of? Is it TV? Somebody tell me...what the fuck could possibly make America (or at least 50% of it) so goddamned stupid. Jesus H Christ!!

I gotta go roll a jamacian style spliff...I just can't take America any more.
