Some California Republicans Echo Gov. Davis
Scott Barnett, a San Diego businessman, has created a political action committee, and a Web site -- RepublicansAgainstTheRecall.com --to try to help the incumbent stay in office.

"We are opposed to the recall of any elected official who has not committed acts of corruption or malfeasance and is not physically or mentally incapacitated in any way which would preclude him from serving out his term of office. It sets a very bad precedent."

"It could result in a worst-case scenario of Republicans splitting the ticket and installing" Lt. Gov. Cruz M. Bustamante (D), "who would be positioned to run" for election to a full term in 2006.

Better, he said, to keep a hugely unpopular Democrat in office for the 2004 election, when disgruntled voters will turn to the GOP for salvation and help reelect President Bush, and then capture the governorship in 2006.

1. I wonder how everyone feels

knowing that after Davis leaves all sorts of taxes will be increased.

(On edit: hate to be so cynical. Davis belongs in office but I really think he won't be able to stay.)

2. I have a wish list for the recll election in this order
Edited on Thu Aug-21-03 02:20 AM by jamesinca
1) Davis stays in office and gains some measure of respect among the CA populace.

2)Cruz Bustamonte takes the governor office and turns the state around and gives the repugs a case of red ass.

3) some repug takes the office and just runs the state into the ground pissing a lot of people off, losing the state for Bush or anybody else that has the political affiliation of republican.

I think Bustamonte has a good plan that he has layed out. It sickens the repugs when they see things like this, but they are the ones that wanted to do the bond measure/ borrowing thing and increase while extending the debt. He wants to improve the state, not run it into the ground like some of the idiots out here. Here is a link to the Bustamonte budget and a look into his mind. http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/chronicle/archive/2003/08/20/MN112629.DTL

3. I don't like your #3, because I live here
How about this:

3) Arianna wins and rips the Republicans a new one.

I might also add:

2 1/2) Arianna throws support to Cruz, in exchange for becoming the
new Lt. Gov.

I think some Republicans have figured out that if Bush were held to the same standard as Davis, he would be recalled also....
