U.S. Soldier Slightly Hurt by Bomb in Afghan South

BAGRAM, Afghanistan (Reuters) - A U.S. soldier was slightly wounded by a bomb while on patrol in southeastern Afghanistan, a U.S. military spokesman said on Thursday.

The device exploded near the U.S. base at Shkin in Paktika province close to the border with Pakistan on Wednesday evening, Lieutenant-Colonel Douglas Lefforge told a news briefing at the U.S. headquarters at Bagram to the north of Kabul.

A 12,500-strong U.S.-led military coalition remains in Afghanistan pursuing remnants of the Taliban and the al Qaeda network more than 22 months after the United States attacked the country following the September 11 attacks in 2001.
