A CHANGING LANDSCAPE
White House Puts the West on Fast Track for Oil, Gas Drilling

By Alan C. Miller, Tom Hamburger and Julie Cart, Times Staff Writers

WASHINGTON — Placing a heavy emphasis on energy production in the American West, the Bush administration has moved aggressively to open up broad areas of largely unspoiled federal land to oil and gas exploration.

Soon after taking office in 2001, the Bush White House set up a little-known task force that acts as a complaint desk for industry, passing energy company concerns directly to federal land management employees in the field. Although the creation of White House task forces is commonplace, experts on the executive branch say it is unusual to have one primarily serving the interests of a single industry.

In addition, the Bureau of Land Management has been pushed to issue drilling permits at a record pace for three of the last four years, an increase of 70% since the Clinton administration.

snip<------
"I can't understand all the rapid expansion of drilling and more drilling everywhere," said Courtney Skinner, 68, a lifelong Republican and former Bush voter who leads expeditions into the mountains of western Wyoming. "I think it's going to cost the West a terrible price — not only in our water, our air, our way of life. It's going to cost us the freedom that the West stands for."
------>snip

So is this Courtney still a repuke or just a former * voter?

Is this what the asshole means by taking care of the environment? The asshole's taking care of it alright. Making sure there's a derrick and pipeline in every single piece of open space.

Asshole * is on a faster track now because he knows his days as emperor are coming to an end. Get your super fast-tracked drilling permits while you can.

These corporate owned whores in the wh are truly disgusting sorry excuses for a supposed living creature. Asshole vp's excluded because he's a robot but it applies to whoever programmed it.

If these assholes steal the election again they will probably try to reverse the rules to allow drilling in the 13 National Marine Sancturies. No piece of land or ocean is sacred to these bozos.

* is so disgusting and obsessed with oil that I wouldn't be surprised if the jerk hadn't thought privately( is this possible? ) or openly about wanting to grab and sell the oil leaking out of the USS Arizona.

4. Oops, shouldn't be leaving out the Florida Coast
I'm sure Jeb wouldn't want to stand in the way of national energy policy, and even if he does, W's a guy who does what needs to be done, whether its popular or not.

5. Well I'm glad this came out before the election
Aside from the fact that it's all about MONEY, I guess Bushco just doesn't understand that the last thing we need to do is find more oil and gas. What we're using now is already killing us! The solution to the United States energy problem is to USE LESS dirty fuel, use more clean alternative energy sources and build our buildings, vehicles and appliances to be more energy efficient.

Can't think of any other reason someone would want to turn the earth into a husk, knowing what will result.

10. I remember in '03 there was a story about Wyomingians(?)
turning green over all a pump their backstabbling Repub corporate "friends" set up next to their house, keeping them up at night--in the middle of nowhere.
