CHICAGO (AP) Rep. Peter Hoekstra, a Michigan Republican, will head the House Intelligence Committee as it takes a key role in the pre-election debate over changes to the CIA and the nation's overall intelligence system, two congressional sources said Wednesday.
House Speaker Dennis Hastert, R-Ill., was to introduce Hoekstra as the choice to head the committee later Wednesday in Chicago, the sources said, speaking on condition of anonymity.
Hoekstra, 50, who was born in the Netherlands and came to the United States as a youngster, currently serves on the intelligence committee and represents a district in western Michigan. ..
Hoekstra has been in the House since 1992 and on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence since 2001. He previously was an executive with furniture manufacturer Herman Miller Inc. ..
