SSources: Michigan congressman (R) to head House intelligence panel
CHICAGO (AP)

Rep. Peter Hoekstra, a Michigan Republican, will head the House Intelligence Committee as it takes a key role in the pre-election debate over changes to the CIA and the nation's overall intelligence system, two congressional sources said Wednesday.

House Speaker Dennis Hastert, R-Ill., was to introduce Hoekstra as the choice to head the committee later Wednesday in Chicago, the sources said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

Hoekstra, 50, who was born in the Netherlands and came to the United States as a youngster, currently serves on the intelligence committee and represents a district in western Michigan. ..

Hoekstra has been in the House since 1992 and on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence since 2001. He previously was an executive with furniture manufacturer Herman Miller Inc. ..

1. My sister lives in his district and loathes him
Hoekstra is a dutch reformed, fundamentalist christian from Holland, MI. My sister used to be the assistant director for the Head Start program in that area. She went to some speech he gave to parents shortly after 9-11, and told them that he goes to schools to try to explain the terrorist attacks and the US response. He stated that he tells schoolkids that "we are going to find them and kill them". After the speech, my sister talked to him individually and asked him "Do you ask parents beforehand whether they want you talking to their kids about killing people?". He told her yes, so she said "Well, I'm a parent and I want you to know that I don't ever want you talking like that to my kids when they are at school". He had no answer to that.

So, we know where he stands on the issue of killing people.
