Leader of Code Pink arrested in front of Faux News!
Is this poetic injustice or what?

"Medea Benjamin, leader of Code Pink, Arrested in front of Fox

47TH AND 6TH, 4 P.M.--"SHUT UP FOX! SHUT UP FOX! SHUT UP FOX!" Try it--it just feels good. The Code Pink Fox NEws Bill O'Reilly Shut-up-a-thon is proceeding brilliantly and cathartically with perhaps 2 thousand people in front of Fox NEws HQ when Medea Benjamin, an internationally known activist, founder of GLobal Exchange as well as Code Pink, was suddenly arrested. A small figure wearing a pink Statue of Liberty crown, she was surrounded by police and taken into a van as the crowd chanted "Shame!" NO one seemed to know why she had been targeted, besides the obvious; no one else was arrested in the largely older gathering."

There were a lot more arrests near Ground Zero, a School of the Americas Watch and War Resister League protest.

bloody corrupt media, because they are not doing their job anymore. They are not independent.

9. She was arrested because she's a movement leader
All high-profile demonstrators are specifically targetted by the cops for arrest in any protest. It's an anti-morale move aimed to inhibit the leader's work.

Remember, she's the one who brought the protest banner in behind Rumsfeld during his congressional testimony.

12. I heard they have 35 pictures of - I dont know what they are
calling them - people , maybe they are the leaders of organizations..
who they were going to arrest.

I'd think they would use the excuse that she organized the protest without a permit....

but I think you're right. Targeting leaders.

NYC's finest carrying on the infamous memory and techniques of the EAST GERMAN STASI.

19. America has a long tradition of weeding out movement leaders
suffregettes at the turn of the 20th century
union organizers of the early 20th century
black civil rights leaders in the Jim Crow south

The STASI could probably have learned a thing or two from us.

22. How dare you compare NYPD to STASI?
That's just going way too far. Barely three years ago, almost a hundred New York police officers gave their lives trying to save people from the falling towers, and yet you dare compare them with the STASI. Or have you forgotten the overwhelming sacrifice they paid so that others would live?

27. How dare you !
Stop putting words in peoples mouths.

She said Us.

Question for you.

How many of the cops "guarding" the GOP are NYPD?

How many are cops that volunteered to go to NY to help out?

Your 9/11 evocation while eloquent, does nothing but dishonor those that continue to question and fight to bring the killers to justice.

Instead of becoming self righteous try remembering that the NYPD was full of corruption before 9/11 and after.

14. Have they finished building the internment camps for dissenters yet?
And are they putting dissenters in them?

Or are they waiting until after they re-select Bu$h to start rounding us up?

Oh, yeah...they don't want to hurt Bu$h's chances 2 months before the election.

16. Yes, there's "Guantanamo on the Hudson"
Pier 57 at 11th Avenue and 15th street has been decked out with barbed-wire cages to hold dissenters. The New York Press calls it "Guantanamo on the Hudson".

25. Wow .. that is all i can say..
<snipped from linked article>
Cops fear some protesters might hang around after the convention to disrupt other events, like the U.S. Open, so the pen will remain open indefinitely."

The U.S. Open? Other events? Like what, the 3rd Ave. Street Fair? The grand opening celebration at a new Payless Shoe Source in Queens?

In other words, a year-round internment camp is now part of the ongoing West Side development project. Does the Olympic Committee know about this?

18. Still no word of what happened to Medea Benjamin
After she was arrested for no apparent legal reason. But she is one of hundreds of people the NYPD has arrested today, and the cops are still going around with their orange mass-arrest dragnets--they can round up a whole street of people like cattle that way!

24. Snipped from the original linked article... VERY telling ...
<snip>
But the focus of particular ire from Councilmembers Margarita Lopez and Charles Barron, who spoke, has been the systematic infringment of people's right to counsel. Normally at demos like these, the National Lawyers Guild gets the names of arrestees from friends or witnesses and uses those lists to invoke the individuals' right to seek counsel. Clare Norins, a National Lawyers Guild attorney, was attempting to do just that at 100 Centre Street last night, and stated today that she was told by courthouse employees that there was an order that for this week there would be no "notices to warden."

This means no one can meet with an attorney until his or her case is docketed, minutes before the accused sees a judge. That's one reason people are being held for up to 34 hours, only to be released with desk appearance tickets.

Councilmember Lopez pointed out that after the February 15 United for Peace and Justice march, successful lawsuits were brought against the city to stop the practice--and strategy--of prolonged detention. "We are seeing an escalation and perfection of police tactics," she said. "We are losing our constitutional guarantees."

28. These Ladies make me feel so proud
I have been blessed to have married into a family of one woman who was involved with the feminist movements, Helen Eiken Starrett, writer, journalist, era of the the 1800's she was a friend and activist along side the most prominent women activists of the day.. She also raised many sons that went on to become great builder's and architects of the US. One Son Paul Starrett constructed the Empire State Building, the Flat Iron Building, numerous historical buildings throughout DC. another son was the architect for numerous buildings such as thbe Algonquin Hotel in NYC and numerous other buildings before he died at an early age due to pneumonia. But I am so proud that she was a woman activist and feel my daughters have been recipients of these genes. The Pink Ladies are todays movement for the woman of today....God Bless them.

30. Medea Benjamin has been released.
She was at the Fox protest tonight. Apparently, she was arrested in front of Fox News last night for speaking through a small microphone. Strange, but true.

Anyway, she is already out, and she is fine.
