Saudi govt fights militancy with jobs
Millions of dollars are being pumped into job placement schemes for its frustrated youths, leaving foreigners out in the cold

RIYADH - The government of Saudi Arabia is drawing on a huge oil windfall to place hundreds of thousands of young Saudis in jobs traditionally held by foreigners.



ECONOMISTS estimate that the Saudi government, which receives 80 per cent of its revenue from oil sales, will post a US$35 billion (S$60 billion) surplus this year, almost all of it due to higher oil prices.

1. You know, they may finally be on to something.
Isn't that what the civil rights folks tried to get the US to do during the 60's and 70's. Doesn't it still ring true? Jobs instead of jails. I think Jesse Jackson said something like that when he was running for President.
